re: Maruti planning new crossover based on the Baleno. EDIT: Launches "FRONX"!

Maruti has almost 50% market share in the Indian car market. Can they maintain it with just 1 product per segment? Many experts detest psuedo SUVs like Brezza, Creta, Venue, etc but the fact remains this is the biggest and fastest growing segment right now. Based on spy shots, I do believe Maruti has a winner on its hands with the Baleno cross and I believe Maruti won't make the mistake of naming or designing it after the Baleno. It will sure sell like hot cakes if they put some SUV cues in the design and plonk that gem K12 engine to get the sub4m tax benefits which Brezza misses out on. I just wish they make atleast a 4star product if not 5.

Thanks for the images. The crossover stance looks closer to venue/nexon. With the 1.2 L NA/1.0L boosterjet engines and AMT gearbox, Maruti should be able to reap tax benefits and price the Baleno cross below Venue/Sonet and Nexon.

Off late, the Nexa offerings like
1. Baleno Zeta AMT with 6 airbags which is priced under 10 lakh OTR
2. XL6 with ventilated seats and
3. this upcoming crossover

seem to be more Value for Money for their respective segments and Arena offerings like the new Brezza, which costs 17L OTR for top of the line AT look overpriced.

Toyota Yaris Cross spied. Heavily camouflaged for component testing ? Suzuki's boosterjet on test? New Hybrid combination?

Will Yaris Cross be the SUV that will be unveiled on Sep. 28th?

Toyota will unveil a flex-fuel car in India on September 28, announced the Minister; this will be a pilot project for the country.

Boss, with so many fuel mix, flex fuel and biofuel discussions, I am really getting jittery, and thinking of selling my ICE and going electric.

Now, Mr Gadkari, may I request you for coming up with an out of the box idea on how the nation should run an EV on ethanol as well.

The said flex-fuel car is going to be the Camry, as announced by the Minister during the unveiling of the Hydrogen powered Mirai.

I think Maruti will probably market this as the new S-cross. The front looks similar to the new Vitara. Car does look good. Probably will be priced between the Baleno and the Brezza.

Maruti YTB (Baleno Cross):

The floating nine-inch touchscreen infotainment system of the Maruti Suzuki YTB looks similar to the unit found in the regular Baleno while the adjustable headrests, design of the dashboard and steering wheel appear to have carried over as well. Despite wearing heavy black wrap, the prototype looks to be in its close-to-production state.

re: Maruti planning new crossover based on the Baleno. EDIT: Launches "FRONX"!

It is still unclear if YTB aka Baleno cross will be built on Heartect or Global C platform. Most of the speculations so far points to Heartect platform. If true this shall be a cause of concern for safety conscious users. It's time to move forward with safety aspects.

If 1.0 L 3 cylinder Turbo petrol engine from Baleno RS is used, will it be enough for a car weighing anything more than Baleno which weighs at about 950kg unladen? I am assuming they are planning to position it between Baleno and Brezza. I guess they are badly missing a 1.2 Litre turbo engine for use in sub 4 metre category for a balance between performance, fuel economy and Tax benefit.

More than enough. The 1.0 turbo K10C is more powerful than 1.5 K15C, at 111 PS.

re: Maruti planning new crossover based on the Baleno. EDIT: Launches "FRONX"!

My take on this:

Brezza has moved up on the pricing and there is big gap between baleno and brezza. Brezza is a nexon competitor. There is still space for a Punch rival. This is where the baleno based crossover will be placed. Heartect platform and the same 1.2 k12C engine to keep prices low.

Maruti isn't a performance car maker. For a car weighing less than a ton, 1.2L NA engine should suffice. Punch isn't a performer. But it still does 10K units. If there's a Maruti equivalent with smooth engine and better fuel efficiency, punch sales is going down. I don't believe there's a turbo engine.
