Re: Delhi-NCR BHPians: How much lower did you sell your 10 / 15 year old car for?

I think Delhiites and Bangaloreans should use the teambhp classifieds more. :P

It'll be good for BHPians to overcome the Bangalore used car mafia and the 10 year rule.

Re: Delhi-NCR BHPians: How much lower did you sell your 10 / 15 year old car for?

We recently sold a 2007 model Honda City in Gurgaon for 1.25 lakhs. The car was bought in Chandigarh for ~7 lakhs. It was maintained very well by my father. So an approximate ~80% depreciation hit. The selling experience ware tiresome as both Cars24 and CarTrade offered sub 1 lakh price initially but then increased after knowing that we were ready to accept offers elsewhere.

One Dealer told me that a lot of luxury cars from Delhi are sent to southern states. They have tie-ups in TN and Karnataka and get better rates than northern states.

Couple of years back when I was selling my Father-in-laws 14 year old Alto (44K ODO), I was getting really low quotes of less than 40K for it from car dealers. So I put a post on OLX and sold it for 75K to someone from Punjab.

Recently my cousin sold his 9.5 years old (1 Lakh + ODO) Diesel Corolla in Punjab for 4.5 Lakhs. The reason for such good rate was because the car was registered in Punjab. Had it been a Delhi registered car, he would have got around 3 Lakhs.
I think most of the small dealers in NCR end up selling cars up in the north, My dad had bought a brand new Swift Diesel back in 2008 and he drove it for 1.5 lakh kilometers and sold it in 2014 for 3.2 lakh rupees which was a really good value for the car even though it had a major service coming up as well but the person who bought it from us ended up saying that he was then going to drive it up to Punjab and then sell it for 40-50k rupees more. I think this practice still holds true due to Punjab being exempted from the NGT ban
and just the higher market value over there.

Re: Delhi-NCR BHPians: How much lower did you sell your 10 / 15 year old car for?

Sold my Gurugram Registered 2011, 1.1 lakhs km driven Tata Aria Pride 4X4 for 3 lakhs. The online websites were offering 1.5-1.8 Lakhs. The local dealers asked me to leave my vehicle with them and wait for a buyer. The buyer in my case was a known contact. Got NOC just a fews days before completing 10 years. Getting NOC was simple task. However from personal experience it’s next to impossible to get these 10/15 years old vehicle reregistered in UP and Rajasthan. Further these vehicles are not allowed in NCR, most neighbouring state buyers are hesitant, as one cannot travel to/ through NCR.

On my recent trip to Leh, I encountered a few tour operators and locals having DL registered old fortuners and endeavors. They are driving these without transferring/re-registration in remote areas.

Re: Delhi-NCR BHPians: How much lower did you sell your 10 / 15 year old car for?

Sold our 2010 Fortuner 4x4 in Noida for 4.5 lakhs. The Dealers/ Exchange were quoting in range of 2.5-3.5 lacs. It had run just shy of 2lac kms and was about to complete the 10yr mark when we sold it. Had sold it to an acquaintance in eastern UP. The good thing was that the car was UP registered so no hassles in transfer.

Re: Delhi-NCR BHPians: How much lower did you sell your 10 / 15 year old car for?

Sold the following since the start of this year solely because of the NGT rule:

1) A scratchless 2013 Swift VDI in pristine condition, completed only 62k kms, for 3.4 lacs. The car has been transferred to a buyer in Chandigarh. The car had additional accessories worth over a lac which included alloy wheels from NeoWheels, brand new Michelin Energy XM+ rubber, bucket seat covers by Autoform, and a very sweet sounding Sony touchscreen + Pioneer amp + JBL sub + Alpine 2 way coaxials + Alpine components up front.

2) A scratchless 2006 Hyundai Santro Xing XO in pristine condition, completed only 69k kms, for 40k. The car has been transferred to a buyer in Chandigarh. The car again had a very sweet sounding Pioneer DEH-P6850MP HU + Alpine 2 way coaxials + Alpine components setup and bucket seat covers from Autoform.

Both the cars were non-accidental with full 50% NCB on insurance intact. They were extremely well maintained with full service history, no traffic challans ever, and were advertised on Team-BHP's 'Classifieds' section as well. Both new owners were very surprised by the immaculate condition of the cars.

That's some serious low balling from the dealers
A friend sold his 2009 Fortuner in Punjab with 1.9L kms on odometer for 6.7L in a hurry, he could have easily got 7 for it.

I just can't fathom how many people are losing their hard earned money due to this useless draconian law, while some are making their lives out of it.

Re: Delhi-NCR BHPians: How much lower did you sell your 10 / 15 year old car for?

I am one of those who got impacted by NGT ruling partly by timing and partly by our own planning. Was trying till the last day to ensure Zen remains with us.

Had to part away with 2004 Zen LX, 1.5L kms run and mechanically sorted for another decade for around 40k only in exchange with new Swift from Maruti dealer. We bought Swift on the date when Zen's RC would have ceased. And we paid for the gaffe.

The hurt honestly is not for the amount which we got for our Zen. Some thousands here and there wouldn't have made it easier. She was forced to let go off due to idiots making policies for us.

Re: Delhi-NCR BHPians: How much lower did you sell your 10 / 15 year old car for?

Sorry if it is a repeat or naive question. But aren't there HR, UP registered vehicles in NCR region? Are they treated the same way as DL registered car for scrap rule? Can't they be sold to other towns within the same state they belong to in order to circumvent scrap policy? Is NoC and re-registration still required, for example an UP number plate car in NCR being sold to buyer from Lucknow?

My only appeal to Delhi folks is please advertise on TBHP classifieds for reasonable prices. Somehow the cars I see are all stratospherically priced (similar to Chennai / Bangalore prices). However, actual transaction prices seem to be extremely low.

Insane. A relative sold a similar 15 year old sparsely used Santro for 1.3L to cars24 of all places (imagine how much it would be resold for). I offered 1.2L. In hindsight I should have increased my offer and got the car, considering the insane demand for used cars right now. Valuations are off the charts.

The prices mentioned here are mouth watering to say the least. A 2009/10 Fortuner would easily fetch 9-10L in Chennai and I would buy up similar examples for 7L without much thought, leave alone the 2.5 or 3.5 or 4L mentioned above.

Re: Delhi-NCR BHPians: How much lower did you sell your 10 / 15 year old car for?

The rule is crap! We know that. I guess the bigger Q is what do you do?

1. Sell the car well in advance? Say 6/7 years for diesel
2. Run it down to the ground for 10 years and then sell it outside the state for whatever you get?
3. Keep driving the car post 10 years, and risk getting it impounded? I know this is against the law and I am not promoting this, but many people will gladly do this citing "it's a bad policy!”

PS: I have pristine 7 year young Jetta TDI and am wondering what to do with it? I recently changed my other car. So will ideally not like to spend money.

Re: Delhi-NCR BHPians: How much lower did you sell your 10 / 15 year old car for?

I sold my 9yrs old Swift Vdi, 160K kms for 2.3Lacs to Cars24. A local dealer quoted 1.8Lacs and Cars24 started with 1.75Lacs.

if this wasn't for 10years rule, I would have kept it running for another 3-4 years at least.

Sales experience with Cars24 was fine, except they haven't transferred the RC even after 3 months.

3. How easy or difficult was it to sell your 9 - 10 year old diesel car?
I have a relative in Delhi who is trying to sell his 9 year old XUV 500 (which he got in the lottery allotment system at that time) with approx. 31K on the odometer. He already has a Q3 and CRV so has planned to dispose off his Mahindra.

The offer he is getting is around 1.6 - 1.8 Lacs from even reputed online portals for selling cars which we feel is below the market price in other states. Just for reference, I disposed my Ertiga ZDI (2013 Jan model) with 1.2 Lac on ODO for 3.7 L in June 2020.

Would love to know an authentic source to benchmark prices in other states. Would be really helpful.

Trying to sell a well maintained NCR registered car nearing the NGT timeline gets crazy, disheartening, and heartbreaking, all at the same time. Crazy because there is a sense of urgency in the mind of the seller, disheartening because the dealers don't quote a rational price, and heartbreaking because in certain cases like mine, the car is in such an immaculate condition that it's hard to let go. NCR dealers armed with an abundant oversupply of used cars in the market offer unexpectedly low prices when one goes to sell the car.

With the Santro, there were certain reasons why I decided to sell at that low price. Firstly, I didn't have the time or the patience to haggle with multiple dealers for the best price. Secondly and more importantly, during to the pandemic, the already 4 year old battery had gone a little weak and the tyres too needed replacement. Getting these two done would have cost me at least about 15k + another 5k for general servicing which was also due. Add to it the additional hassle of getting an NOC which would have cost about 3-4k + the time I would have spent on getting it. Taking this and totalling it all, I couldn't stop questioning myself if I would have sold it for 70-75k if nothing needed to be done on the car; a car which cost me less than 4 lacs 15 years back. The answer I got was a yes and so I sold it for 40k without getting anything done on the car.

Crazy, disheartening, and heartbreaking, all at the same time!
