For one, I am thinking of buying a cheaper car next time than I could afford. I used to think my next car would be a nice SUV. But today, it makes no sense to put say 25L-30L on a Jeep Compass to see it go to (almost) zero in 10 years. I would rather buy an S-Cross and buy gold with the money saved.

If enough people do it, may be the govt. will notice the trend and will actually do something to fix these oppressive rules.

Re: Delhi-NCR BHPians: How much lower did you sell your 10 / 15 year old car for?

One of my close friends runs a used car company in Delhi, and what I have seen over the past 2-3 years is that, as many members have mentioned, is that dealers have contacts in neighboring states and through their regular contacts/agents at the RTO, manage to get an NOC even if the car is just about to reach its EOL in Delhi. For example, I remember that he sold a first gen Santa Fe (it was 2011 I think) to a dealer from Bihar in 2019 for a couple of big ones, and he managed to double that price and sell it forward. So depending on the car and its depreciation here, dealers can mint money on such transactions.
Though yes, the owner selling the car here in Delhi has to take a big hit on the actual market value. Common states for such deals are Punjab, UP, Bihar etc.

It is easy to blame the authorities for scrap rules but in the end, it is because of the rules that people are thinking twice before buying fuel guzzling/polluting diesel cars. I am not from NCR but looking at air quality index and foggy pictures of Delhi makes my heart sink and I can't imagine what it's citizens have to go through. I know there are other sources of pollution but whatever little help these rules provide, at least it is something! Sometime old habit die hard and may be these rules are best way to make us change! Sorry if offended anyone but nothing personal against anyone. Just trying to put across my thoughts.

Whilst getting my old car life extended in my hometown in Punjab, came to know many owners from Delhi were selling after obtaining NOC . Same may be the case with other states in North. Transfer and get better deal.

No. Irrespective of state of registration, you cannot drive a diesel car older than 10 years and petrol car older than 15 years in Delhi NCR by law.

I am trying to sell my VW vento highline 2012 Jan model.
It has completed 1.1L Kms, very well maintained, non accidental with all service records. Dealers are quoting numbers anywhere between 1.8L to 3. My expectation is 4.5. Can some one throw some light in case my expectations are wrong?

I sold my 2007 model Maruti Swift Vxi (ABS) 2nd owner - 67k on the odometer (good condition car) for 1.25 Lac in Feb 2020. The buyer was an individual who took the car to his hometown in Himachal and registered it there. If it was not for the 15-year rule for petrol cars in NCR I could have got at least 1.5 Lac odd for the car

Re: Delhi-NCR BHPians: How much lower did you sell your 10 / 15 year old car for?

I have an almost 10 year old VW Vento 1.6 TDI (purchased in March 2012). Hence, I will need to sell / replace it by March 2022 i.e. in another 6 months. A small breather for me is that my Vento is currently Noida registered with a UP number. VW anyways does not command high resale value like Maruti or hyundai; & from experience of friends and colleagues who have sold their 10 year old vehicle, it is better to sell it 6 months prior to the 10 year period atleast so that -

1) One gets better resale value than scrap value
2) Getting NOC in case the purchaser wants to re-register the car from Delhi NCR RTOs is easier.

Thanks for the interest shown. Yes, he is definitely interested in selling the XUV 500. However, as mentioned in my earlier post the car is already 9 years old. So considering the 10 year rule in Delhi it makes sense only if you are planning to take the vehicle outside Delhi.

Re: Experience: Selling my car to Cars24.com

Sold my 65k run 2012 Audi A4 Diesel for 5.75L on 25th. I didn't receive any token or delivery payment for 3 days due to some kind of NPCI server issue! I decided to hand over car to them on 28th without payment. Finally I received payment on 30th morning.
Except for one good offer 3 months back, all I got was low ball offers from local dealers. Even Audi dealership offered only 5L.
All I can say is that a very stupid and rash decision from NGT which should have been reversed by the Union Govt by any means possible.
Cars24 staff was cordial and friendly. Also staff was praising management for helping out employees during Covid 2nd wave.
If I don't face any issues with RC transfer then I wouldn't mind doing business with them again.

My dad has a 2006 Honda City in Delhi and we got an NOC just a few days before it completed its 15 years, earlier this year. We have not sold it yet because we were getting scrap value (around 40Ks) for it and it is still in good driving condition.

Re: Delhi-NCR BHPians: How much lower did you sell your 10 / 15 year old car for?

I have a December 2014 Ecosport Titanium which I plan to sell due to stupid NGT rule in Delhi NCR. It is in emaculate condition with a very detailed service history and I am trying to get quotes from Cars24 and likes. The offers are around 3.50-3.75

Would this be an OK price to sell. I don't want to get into the hassles of finding a buyer outside NCR

Re: Delhi-NCR BHPians: How much lower did you sell your 10 / 15 year old car for?

Hi
My brother has a diesel Chevrolet Cruze in Delhi which has breached the 10Y mark. Scrapping is our last option. What is the best way to sell it out? He reached out to cars24 and unfortunately because RC is expired and NOC is not there, things could not move forward. He is getting that arranged at the moment.

Any leads will be very helpful.

Thanks
