Mahindra XUV700 sets new 24-hour endurance record

The Mahindra XUV700 has set a new National 24 Hours Endurance Record. The SUV clocked over 4,000 km at an average speed of 170-180 km/h.

Four XUV700s entered the endurance run that was held at the Mahindra SUV Proving Track (MSPT) near Chennai. All four vehicles recorded over 4,000 km with the Diesel MT variant leading the pack with 4,384.73 km, Diesel AT clocking 4,256.12 km, Petrol MT doing 4,232.01 km and Petrol AT reaching 4,155.65 km.

The XUV700 beat the previous record of 3,161 km set in 2016. Besides the 24-hour endurance record, the SUV also broke a total of 80 records during the challenge.

The cars were driven for 24 hours at a stretch at high speed with quick stopovers for fuel and driver change.

Re: Mahindra XUV700 sets new 24-hour endurance record

Diesel MT leading the pack probably has to do with it being the most fuel efficient of the wolf pack, else ideally petrol should have been faster.
Petrol AT coming out last isn't surprising.

Commendable Feat Nonetheless

Re: Mahindra XUV700 sets new 24-hour endurance record

Seeing as how and average speed of 170-180km/hr is not an unachievable speed on a track for a lot of vehicles today, what other factors determine the ability or disability to cover this distance in 24 hours? Is it the actual reliability of the vehicle?

Nonetheless, an impressive feat for the XUV700 and for Mahindra!

Re: Mahindra XUV700 sets new 24-hour endurance record

Mahindra really has come a long way in marketing. Since some years now - they do come well prepared and all guns blazing. Ensuring that their product catches the limelight - and stays in it for a significant amount of time to make the initial mark in the right tone. The overall product launch choreography is quite well polished. Very evident since the Thar especially.

And they don't bore the audience with repeated telecast of some 1-2 items. Its a well timed sequence of bits and pieces in various areas that continue to sufficiently impress and keep the "new" feeling alive. I don't really care if the 24 hour non stop run and kms covered is a big deal as such (it pretty much is!). But that they went and did it, invested time, effort and money into it, shows how committed they are to the product's success. Kudos to M&M for that.
(Anybody can now say "we could do it too" - but the one who went and did it already, has made the biggest mark in the customers' mind already.)

These are phenomenal numbers. Well done Mahindra. The ball is now in Mahindra's court to deliver the booked vehicles. Hope they deliver soon. Friend has asked for a test drive and hopefully I too get to test drive one.

Also, Mahindra setting 80 "records" at its own track with no competitor in sight is a bit funny. Now I know why they are called "Mahindra & Mahindra".

Re: Mahindra XUV700 sets new 24-hour endurance record

The mHawk's performance is as expected, it can run at full whack all day long, temp needle stays put but the fuel needle drops a lot faster , wish they give an 80 or 100L tank in the next Gen Scorpio.

Any idea what tyres & engine oil they were running on?

Re: Mahindra XUV700 sets new 24-hour endurance record

Let me get this straight, a modern car can drive in circles for 24 hours straight if you keep refuelling the tank and refilling the tires with air?! What an achievement. Really goes to show that India is at the top of the automobile manufacturing game now.

Re: Mahindra XUV700 sets new 24-hour endurance record

Add some potholes and speed breakers and then let us know the endurance level. Even my 60k driven Jazz can run 24 hours at her top speed on such circuits. I feel the endurance level of the driver is really good as he has kept the average speed around 180 kmph while going on circles

Re: Mahindra XUV700 sets new 24-hour endurance record

4385 kms in 24 hours! If we assume they had taken 3 minutes breaks 6 times to fill the fuel and change the drivers, they must have run the vehicle for about 23 hours and 40 mins. This gives an 'average' speed of over 185 kmph! Mind-boggling for a seven seater Indian SUV, I would say! Makes me convinced that the diesel MT is capable of doing 190 kmph or more as its top speed.

Apparently the previous record was set by Tata Bolt in 2016.

Skoda Kushaq owners would be like only if Skoda had done something similar they wouldn’t have had to do circles around the dealerships over the infamous EPC issue.

The real world achievement for M&M will be if the initial owners face no electrical issues especially with the amount of gizmos packed in this car...

Maintaining an average speed of 180 for 24 hours is a big deal.

There is also a 43 degree banked corner in that track, a lot of things are going to be under a lot of stress. For example your wheel bearings won't survive more than 50K kms if you blitz your vehicle through fast hill roads often, it would otherwise last as long as the vehicle is with you.

We have blown the cooling system for maintaining lesser speeds in the national engine for just a few hours. Car was still within warranty.

Some OEMs will have warning in the user manual as to what engine speeds you can sustain for long (All ECUs will not limit you from driving at speeds not recommended for the engine) , this is why such a circus provides us some useful insight into what the vehicle is capable of.

With the right banking angle, there would be no extra stress on a car vs going in a straight line, right? It'd be far more impressive (and stressful) if they were taking these corners without the banking in place.

Can you share an example of such a warning? I've never heard of anything like this. All engines are designed to operate at 100% load throughout the rev range with no time limits. As per the video below, they even run it over the spec to ensure there is some factor of safety built into the engine.
