Hmm......dunno much about this Montego, but pretty sure its a FWD that means Transverse Engine.

There are lots of people who import used engines, but mostly they are mostly JDM. (Japanese Domestic Market). Might find one in the Gulf countries, since the same engine was used in various RangeRovers, Discoveries and Landie 110s.

Not necessary to use a RWD engine. You can use a FWD engine too, but you will have to fabricate custom mounts for the engine. Also, mating the engine will probably require a custom clutch etc. It's not too easy, but there are people doing it in Bangalore.

Rover V8 was used in the SD1, and is originally, I think, a Buick or something. It's a pretty good engine, and the SD1 did decently in rallies solely because of it. The body had all the rigidity of a plastic scale.

If I could ... I would like to modify the 1957 Chevy Bel Air.

For Indian models ... Safari.

Not all FWD engines are easy to mount North South. G13 Suzuki is an exception and has strengtened bosses in the block where you can drill holes for mounts. (that because it was designed from the outset for N-S and E-W mounting) Otherwise, I wouldnt feel too comfortable drilling holes randomly into an Aluminum block. Using an existing N-S engine is 100 times easier.

For indian cars, I would take a contessa- Man that is customisation with a budget!!!!

for non-indian cars, I would go in for a 1985-88 ford capri 2.8i V6- That was one hooligan car, in fact it was my first car after passing my driving test ( i was in london at that time). Today you can get the capris for as little as 1500 pounds, possibly with some rust, but spend a couple of lakhs on it, and u have a budget muscle car. The stock car came with a 160 bgp engine but tuners have extracted over 350 bhp without too much problem....the only thins is that the car used to run through sets of tyres like there was no tomorrow!

didn't know you were a Viper tune-up fan. here's another site for you - if you aren't aware already - Heffner's Performance

in response to Gordon's theory i'd probably go back in time and buy that Dodge Charger for Rs. 20,000/- from Chor Bazaar and go about restoring it......
