-------------------------- LX DICOR - BS III ------Turbo 2.6 SLX
Gross Vehicle Weight (kg) - 2650-------------------------- 2510
Kerb Weight (kg) --------- 2100 -------------------------- 1910

Displacement cc ---------- 2956 -------------------------- 2609
Power PS@rpm ------------115@3000 ---------------------116@3800
Torque Nm@rpm -----------300@2000 ---------------------277@1700

This is what is the weight difference. In terms of Gross weight 140 kgs. but for such a heavy beast, with the power difference i don't think it matters a lot.

We should look at the kerb weight as thats the standard taken for even calculating the power to weight ratio and with apprx 200 kg extra we are looking at seating apprx 3 people on the safari all the time.....it does matter IMO.

but what about that extra cc and torque...don't they compensate?

Well not really, it needs more bhp to make it equal for being obese

Exaaactly!!!! thats why for power to weight ratio only bhp and kerb weight is used for calculations.

Yes but it makes whatever bhp it makes at 1/4th lower rpm which should make it quite even.

Well it does not go above 3000RPM, the Scorpio is surely faster then the Safari, PTW and TTW matter and though the Safari makes the power at 1/4th RPM, the Scorpio is no less.

That too me (a calculated guess) is the only reason why the Safari looses out.

Now, can people perform a simple experiment, side by side, both cars will accelerate till 3000 rpm in first gear from standing start, which one will have its nose forward at the 3000 rpm point.

However in real world, the scorp will go 800 rpm more in each gear, which is where it will start showing its rear end to the safari.

okay okay, lets wait and see how the 2.2 ltr performs in their old casing, i am sure there will be a change in the gear ratios and associated rpms.

Acceleration, speed, faster. Are these even considerations in a relative sense for machines like these? Rumble on, and as long as there's decent pace, mile-chomping ride comfort, and ok maintenance, these do their job. Surely these aren't getting drag-raced anytime soon....

hi,

My friend has a 2006 scropio CDRe which had some mileage problem (which i will write about in detail once i test the vehicle for its FE, so taking it to shirdhi) so W12 sugested me to take the beast to india garage .

the service manager told me that the 2.2 will be out by december but we friends got the tendency to stick with the vehicle when it is undergoing service, where we suddenly bumped into one of our old classmate who is workin as a service supervisor in india garage .

Our friend told us that the new scorpio 2.2 eagle will be out within 45 days .He is saying that the New scorpio has lot of electronically advanced (aka Gizmos under the hood) dont know what he meant by that but the NEW SCORPIO 2.2 WILL BE WITH ABS & CRUISE CONTROL & AIR BAGS OPTIONAL ..

dont know whom to belive but our friend was saying with confidence and we have a bet also for that (just a casual bet for 2k )so waiting for it ......

This is the info that we got .......

45 days is early/mid September, depending upon how recently you spoke to him. The new features look good and are required. They usually are aware of the launch dates since the service guys get trained on the new engines just before its launched.

Also please dont use SMS shorts, its not appreciated here.

Hi Guys,

I am in the market for a New SUV and just sat in the Scorpio SLX for the first time today. Apart from a new engine and "Gizmos" what it desperately needs is more room, both upfront and in the middle row. For a 6 footer like myself I felt more cramped than my present Santro.

I don't see how they plan to sell this to markets like South Africa and Australia where the average height is around the 6-ft mark.

Just a thought.

Thanks,

Turby.
