Pricing is the key as it should not cannibalise the Next Gen Fortuner, but if they price it too well then people may not want to buy the Next Gen Fortuner. Do note the Next Gen Fortuner, Prado & LC300 all will be TNGA-F hence my pick will still be the Fortuner (Next Gen)

Most probably the Corolla Cross. RAV4 pricing could be a problem for Toyota.

May your words come true, that would be epic from Toyota. The Mini LC would be a good lifestyle choice. But I doubt it

I strongly feel that Toyota should consider getting the Prado here. It is the right product for people looking to move up from the Fortuner and even folks looking for the upgrade from the Endeavor (I believe there are many in this bracket). Also why develop a new product all together when you have one available already!

They tried bringing the Prado here once and failed miserably. The Landcruiser sells mainly because of it's name and the hype associated with it. The Prado was just seen as the poor man's small LC and it is very telling that in the used market, it's somehow cheaper to get than the fortuner, despite arguably being just as reliable and almost as capable as the full size LC and having a Toyota badge.

The body style here should be the differentiator as capacity expansion (10k/month) is too high for a vehicle above the Hycross. This must be just above the Hyryder, but a true Toyota product hopefully. A true Stark instead of a Snow / Targaryen

It's crazy how people think this is actually going to compete with the Fortuner as a solid 4x4 and then also believe that the 2wd RAV4 crossover would be too expensive for India

I just hope it's not a rebranded Jimny. Most likely it's going to be a Corolla Cross or a stretched Yaris cross

Toyota is likely to do as Jeep did in launching the Commander.

Rumour: Toyota developing new SUV for India; plans 3rd factory-screenshot-20231004-091857.png

Toyota Corolla 'Plus' will be the stretched version of its Corolla Cross.

- The 340D project will use the Corolla Cross as a base, with the TNGA-C platform

- With an increase of about 150 mm in the wheelbase, going from the current 2,640 mm to more or less 2,790 mm

- The Jeep Commader has 158 mm more than the Compass in this measure, with 2,794 mm

-The 340D should also get a larger tailgate, making it easier to access.

- 7-seater Corolla Cross will also get a larger rear overhang

- The Corolla Cross will go from about 4.40m in length to somewhere between 4.70m and 4.80m, giving more luggage space beyond the third row.

Re: Rumour: Toyota developing new SUV for India; plans 3rd factory

Toyota eyes capacity expansion in India.

Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM), which ramped up production by 30% in May 2023 to meet strong demand for its products, is looking to set up a third plant following maximum utilisation of its existing production capacity at its Bidadi plants which also roll out some models for Maruti Suzuki as well.

- The third shift (at the existing plant) helped boost the plants’ production output by over 30% to a combined 400,000 units per annum to satisfy the solid demand and ease excruciatingly long waiting periods for some of its new models.

- Have reached our maximum capacity utilization so are in discussions (for more capacity)

- Toyota in India is its global partnership with Suzuki. Rebadged Maruti Suzuki models like the Glanza hatchback, Urban Cruiser Hyryder and more recently the Rumion MPV now account for a third of TKM’s sales.

- A fair portion of TKM’s existing production capacity is utilised by Maruti Suzuki to build vehicles for both the OEMs.

- Toyota is also encouraged by the market shift towards more profitable segments where margins are better.

When has Toyota really compromised margins/profits over sales?

They were always happy with high priced models in all segments barring may be Etios twins.

Toyota's Corolla Based SUV (340D) coming in 2026. Likely to have a Hybrid powertrain. To invest Rs 3,300 crore in third plant at Bidadi

The Corolla Cross-based SUV for India will be underpinned by Toyota’s TNGA-C platform, which is also used by the Innova Hycross. Globally, the Corolla Cross has a wheelbase of 2,640mm, but the India-spec version will likely be lengthened by about 150mm, enough to add a third row of seats.

Not much is known on the styling front, but Toyota could choose to differentiate it from the Corolla Cross with a new nose and new soft parts, including a plastic bumper, grille and headlights. Given the additional length, it will also have a completely new rear end. The upcoming 340D SUV, however, will not be specific to India, and is likely to be exported to other markets as well, although it's not known if it will spawn a Maruti derivative.

Re: Rumour: Toyota developing new SUV for India; plans 3rd factory

Great news and finally! But a 2026 date of production still means Toyota will be unable to hold a candle to the sales the Koreans achieve. Is it a cultural thing why they are extremely caution in expanding productions till date and relying to rebadged vehicles to make a bulk of sales?

Prediction: By 2026 the Innova Hycross will be priced close to 50 lacs on road in bengaluru.

I love the design of the Corolla Cross. Simple yet stylish! I hope much of the overall original design is retained for the Indian version. But I'm lowering my expectations :(

Toyota C SUV project for India dropped.

Toyota is likely to look at an alternative to the C SUV in another 6-8 months.
