Re: Best Air Conditioning Segment wise

Love the air conditioning on my Linea. Brings down the cabin temperature really fast.

Ford cars have a history of good air conditioning. I guess it has to do with where the factory is located. Chennai summers are crazy hot combined with high humidity. The perfect place to test air conditioning during test phases for cars.

Re: Best Air Conditioning Segment wise

I can talk about my Civic, the AC during summer day time is a joke (probably due to no sun films and large glass area), my zen provides better cooling than the Civic!!!

Re: Best Air Conditioning Segment wise

Quite a subjective matter.
Someone finds an AC cold at 25 C.. someone else with a higher blood pressure may sweat at 18 C.

It's a valid measure when the same person sits in multiple cars to give a verdict only on those cars.

I for one, used Hyundai Santro, Nissan Micra & Honda City in the last week.
City performed the best, Santro next & surprisingly Micra came in last for me.
It just couldnt cool the cabin in 10 mins of drive.

City was 2 years old, Santro 7 years old & Micra 2 days old.

The Punto automatic climate control works really well. The Elantra AC is also good. I had no problem in places like Chennai and Pondi in peak summer. I guess it's a combination of about 10 AC vents + cooled seats and the solar glass.

Re: Best Air Conditioning Segment wise

IMO, Volkswagen/Skoda Airconditioning system especially ACC fitted in Jetta/Octavia/Superb/Passat are the worst category. The chilling is good but only when the whole thing is working. Have changed the A/c Compressor of my Jetta every summer (~40,000 cost).

They are simply not built for Indian conditions and to make matters worse, the service centre almost never has the part in stock despite massive demand hence a 30 day garage visit is a norm every summer.

All VAG aircons dont work well.
The other day I was in my friends 3.6litre superb and the aircon was pretty bad.

They take their own sweet time to cool the cabin, whereas my civic ,city and ecosport are super efficient

That same friend's Laura also had a 'okayish' AC, certainly no match for the cars you've listed as having good ACs.

How is the Polo Tsi's AC?

Isn't polo also from the VAG group?

I think those aircons are more suitable for colder countries, now that reminds me that the heater and heated seats work very well in a VAG car.

Do not know about the TSI but my friend's TDi has a pretty okay A/C. I tested in while it was 48 degrees outside and the car was 83k ams old.

Re: Best Air Conditioning Segment wise

I do not find ACs of modern cars that effective (Except few).

Following are the cars which I have personally experienced had best chilling capabilities even in extreme temperatures -

- Mahindra Bolero
- TATA Sierra (I have seen cold smoke coming out when opening the doors like we see in a refrigerator)
- First gen Hyundai Verna

Which current generation cars do you feel are not good in the A/C department?

Many are there, mostly petrol cars have a weaker AC, I tried listing the best ACs I have come across.

List of weak ACs based on my experience-
1. 1st gen WagonR
2. i20 petrol
3. SX4

Thats all I remember.

Re: Best Air Conditioning Segment wise

1. TATA Indigo
2. TATA Nano
3. Ford Figo

These 3 cars had amazing AC units. Cools the cabin real fast! of all the cars that I used over the years, these 3 were highly impressive. Nano was a shocker.

Re: Best Air Conditioning Segment wise

Both the Innova and Altis have a pretty good AC and chill the cabin easily. The sunny and the 320d on the other hand are slightly less effective although still manage to keep things under control.

Re: Best Air Conditioning Segment wise

This thread also could serve as an answer to another thread doing the rounds about "European v/s Japanese cars".
A great AC is non-negotiable in Indian conditions. The Japanese seem to be doing better here.
