Re: What grinds your gears the most about your car? List your primary annoyance

VW Ameo DSG

1. Rear leg room. It is non existent. I knew it from the start and thought it could be a good 2 seater tourer. But with changes in life, the rear seat is required as well which is again, non existent.
2. Long term reliability of the DSG and higher cost of maintaining the VW
3. Boot space, though for a sub 4 meter, is decent still would have prefered a bigger boot especially after owning a Vento.

Ford Figo S

1. Infotainment system. Though the sound output is awesome, there should have been a touch screen with Android Auto functionality from the start.
2. The gearbox is notchy and has already made me stuck twice.
3. Closer to home Ford service center shutting down and now need to travel far to get it serviced.

Re: What grinds your gears the most about your car? List your primary annoyance

2020 KIA Seltos GTX Plus 1.4T Petrol:
1) The vehicle stops at every speed breaker when on one step higher gears at low speeds, even during half clutching. I have driven many 6MTs, but the Seltos set up irritates me like hell.

2) Dancing Seats : The passenger seats of the Seltos dance and shake a lot when driving over rough roads. The locks on these seats shout cost cutting.

MG Gloster:
1) The Touch Screen Head unit : It just shuts down every 2 hours when on a long drive. I borrowed a friend's car for a drive to Chandigarh and he warned me this was likely to happen but having to cool down the display before it would start working again is the limit of non-sense. I asked if this was just a lemon but he replied that service centers are flooded with this complaint without any solution.

Suzuki Landy (Badge Engineered Nissan Serena): Although, again I never got to own this vehicle, but had spent a decent few months as an alternate car when my ride was totalled by a friend. These MPVs may be practical but they handle like an elephant on the road. The worst handling car I have driven.

Re: What grinds your gears the most about your car? List your primary annoyance

Quite an interesting thread.

BMW X5 Xdrive30D (F15)

1. The sticky door handle on the inside. All BMWs of this era have this issue. Apparently, humidity and heat cause the rubber on the inside of the door handle to come off, become gooey, and in turn sticky and disgusting. I can't count the number of times I've had to apologize to a passenger for not warning them of it beforehand. I have covered it with a tape for now.
2. The car has a push-button start but doesn't have keyless entry. Seems so counterintuitive to take the key out every time. There's an Amaze and a Compass at home, and both have keyless entry (with push-button start) and the user experience is surely better.
3. The mirrors don't fold when locking the car. Need to hold the lock button for about 3 seconds for the mirrors to fold.
4. The rear air suspension is bouncy, even at 32-32 PSI tire pressure. The air suspension was supposedly for a better ride at the back, but I don't think BMW implemented it well. I wish there was an 'Individual' driving mode where I could have a city setup of engine in eco-pro, transmission in comfort, steering in comfort, and suspension in sport.
5. The AC vents seem to break too easily. I got them fixed once but not anymore because they're too expensive in my opinion.
6. The 8-speed ZF Torque Converter is absolutely amazing in every way. It's smooth. It's quick. It's seamless. Literally, the only time it falters is when you brake hard(ish) and then accelerate. I think it's only because the transmission drops to the first gear and makes that initial second of acceleration a little jerky. It doesn't happen when you've been still for a while, only when you accelerate right after braking, for instance at a speed breaker. I'm sure other 30D engine owners have noticed the same. Also, a point to note is that if you accelerate hard(ish) then the jerk doesn't seem to exist because you quickly pick up pace and it doesn't feel like the car is holding on to the first gear for too long.
7. This one might be a little unreasonable but adding nonetheless. The X5 was a properly kitted out vehicle even in 2016 but BMW was absolutely shameless by skipping some great features for their flagship SUV that cost ~87 Lac OTR back then. Here's a list of features that were available abroad and would've been great to have in India as well: 360-degree camera, comfort access (keyless entry and more), actual adaptive headlights (not just high beam assist, but blanking out part of the beam and changing the throw depending on speed and surroundings. Worst part is that the hardware is there but the feature is coded out), adaptive cruise control (for boring expressways like the Delhi-Mumbai one), ventilated seats (Jaipur heat + Mocha Brown interior), and maybe a couple more that I can't remember right now.

I got to 7 points interestingly even though I absolutely love the car.

2017 Verna: Very low on rear seat leg room as well as seat height.
2021 Seltos: Bumpy ride for rear passengers. On the touch screen, the home icon is on the passenger side, driver has to reach out.

I have gone 120+ in my Creta and have not heard any 'warning' sounds. Is it not a feature in Hyundai (I am happy if it isnt)

Hyryder: Mosquito net as the sunshade for the sunroof. Ridiculously inappropriate for Indian climate.

The cons that grinds me the most!

Ford EcoSport Titanium S :-

1. The fit and finish, and once you notice it there is no going back

2. Better GB (a 6-Speed MT capable of handling slightly more torque) and a Diesel Automatic.

3. Sharper turning radius.

4. Mute button on the steering wheel, should mute as well as pause the music.

5. The Traction Control Switch - Not sure what Ford was thinking, the placement is wrong and the it is a mere click to switch off traction instead of ‘long-press’ to switch off traction.

Škoda Rapid Style LE :-

1. Not the logo, but the brand itself. The ASC has been horrible and Customer Support is just as trustworthy as an ABS/Wheel Sensor.

Re: What grinds your gears the most about your car? List your primary annoyance

Ford EcoSport:
1) The fit and finish of few parts of the dashboard is not good. I have also observed the door pads to be not put together well.
2) Missing 6th gear in manual transmission for comfortable cruising on highways.
3) Difficulty in putting Reverse gear. Most of the times, the gear never slots perfectly in reverse.
4) Lack of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto in FlyAudio.
5) The FlyAudio touchscreen response is quite slow when interacting with offline in-built navigation.

Ah ours is the plain old FIRE NA petrol Linea. Back in the day the few times we did do intercity drives with it, I do remember thinking it would benefit from some top end grunt or a tall 6th gear. I believe the T-Jet resolved that issue somewhat.

Glad to hear you're familiar with the behaviour of the Micra. I think it's only really possible to drive sedately with it - you can't dart into gaps in traffic at the 2 business days the gearbox takes to catch up to the engine.

Remembered something I do find odd about the A4 - ours doesn't have request sensors on the door. Not even the drivers door.

Re: What grinds your gears the most about your car? List your primary annoyance

Harrier (2019):
  • I never seem to find a comfortable driving position. Every week, I have to adjust the seat position & height. Otherwise, either my knee ends up grazing the dash, leg or lower back pain.
  • Bumpiness - especially over concrete highways. Since I got this car preowned, I don't know how does a new one rides. But ever since I got this car, it's a lot bumpy over concrete highways.

Altroz, Petrol 2020, 40K driven

•Sluggish engine, it's a pain while going uphill and while overtaking.

•Engine noise, without music it sounds like a truck.

•No passenger side request sensor.

•low milage, 10kmpl in city and 18kmpl on highway.
