Undoubtedly the OHC Vtec. And I, too, did put my money where my mouth is.

Why?

That marvellous engine which is just a sheer delight to high-revv! Its exhilirating to drive at full blast, with a high level of driver involvement. Its one of the few cars to appeal to the head as well as the heart. My Vtec is nearing the 60,000 kms mark and I still dont spend anymore to maintain it than I do on the 2006 in-warranty Tata Indigo. Each single part works just the way it should. Its bloody reliable and delivers consistently high fuel efficiency too! Of all the Indian cars I have driven so far, the Vtec is the most fun to drive.

For a car to be loved to much, 4 years after its production stops, says a helluva lot.

Amongst the current in-production ones I guess the hands down winner is :

S A F A R I !!!

OHC Vtech was a good car but is it worth the price... close to 10 lakh rupees, not many could afford it.

Totally NOT! The 10 lakh asking price was a joke.

On the positive side, enthusiasts can pick an OHC Vtec today for 3.5 - 4.5 lakhs! No better used car for that price.

Absolutely correct, and probably the reason for this -

[quote=himanshugoswami;654850]You answered your query yourself. The lancer has fallen off most people's radar- not a good thing when you are talking of cult cars. On the contrary, all the other cars here are contemporaries of the lancer (give or take a couple o fyears) and still evoke such passion!

I beg to differ a bit with you Himanshu ... the Lancer still evokes passion among enthusiasts ... though, it might not apply to a lot of members in T-BHP (in which case your argument is correct ) ... I have seen a couple of guys from T-BHP who have done a makeover job with their Lancers ... perhaps the best car to be modified ... truly a cult car by Indian standards imho ... but i guess its just me who thinks like that (coz I own one at the moment and love every bit of it)

VW Golf GTi (MK I and II)
Ford Sierra Cossworth (My Fav!!)
What about some from the Japanese stable !! I thought the old Honda Civic was quite popular overseas.

Definitely the proud winner is OHC Vtec. This is the only car i drove with full enthusiasm and without fear at higher speeds.I personally love its exterior but not the interior and sitting position.

All, except Zen & Baleno.
Safari 2.2 is too tempting I must add, especially for those long trips on highways. I own a Palio 1.6 and am a big big fan. Have driven OHC only once and liked it as well.

(Before anyone starts bashing, this is just my opinion, and i am among the unlucky majority not to have a cult car, but a WagonR)
The wagonR has soul.. My opinion changed after using it as a service vehicle for a few days.. It does lack character tho..

Anyways, going back to topic,

The OHC Vtec is something.. its one of the most fun to drive cars if not the most, and at the same time, its very refined..

I own a Baleno and love the car..

My vote goes to the Baleno and one of the reasons is because the OHC is very crammed. A huge guy like me, can't fit in the drivers seat!
