Well they hiked prices by 10k and the decrease is 18k so the diff is 8k for the Swift Diesel. Now the VDi will be around 12k cheaper then the ZXi

The government has already been generous. But even I am sure that the manufacturers will play tyrants

both hyundai, maruti and GM hiked prices in jan 2008.now they are the one to reduce first.( infact on earlier occasions they did not reduce the prices immediately after budget reduced tax by 8% last year)

net result is revenue neutral for them(almost)

only TATA did not hike the prices in jan 2008

IMO, price of Petrol Swift should not be slashed. Small car as per Budget readings is cars w/ Engine less than 1.2 ltrs for petrol and 1.5 ltrs for diesel. Swift P does not fall in this category.

spark price cut

as per the newspaper report all those who bought spark after 11th Feb would get refund from GM. a very generous and honest move indeed from GM.

i have a doubt i heard this new law somewhere that says more tax for the second car in the family, is that true and does any body have any new on this?, and more over if this is true the discounts actually sum up the cars to the previous price wont they?

I don't really understand the logic of car manufacturers behind increasing the prices before budget and then bringing it down soon after the budget (Good our FM is more generous towards the auto industry). As it is the dealers from their personal side give discounts till the year end March 31st. And the price cut from the manufacturers side would be effective from 1st April onwards. Then again the prices would be revised citing to the rising input costs in the next few months, and then there would be again price hikes till the next budget...lol..!!

We just took the delivery of a Spark last week. The salesman came back saying that its possible for us get a 10k refund back. I didnt think it wasnt possible to do this as the excise duty is to declared at the time of sale at the factory.

But does anyone think here that salesman may be able to pull this off?

Excise refund

Yes its possible - though this is normally only when the car manufacturers have announced a scheme under which cars purchased before the budget will get a refund if the budget causes the price to reduce.
