I'm a big fan of the Yaris after having driven it (It's probably the only Toyota vehicle I like).

If they can pull it off in India at the appropriate price, I'll have a lot of respect for that company.

I think it will be priced higher up the ladder like the Fabia , and something really cheap might be coming up too which is being developed.

Alright. I got your point Considering that surely looks like the same price bracket as mentioned earlier.

The car may not be coming soon.
Here is an article about the Toyota small car. The article says that about 50 engineers are working on the small car from Toyota stable.
It is clearly stated that the car will be launched two years from now.

And they are planning a sedan on the same platform, so Vios is not coming anytime soon.

Quote:

Chennai, About 50 Indian engineers are working in the development of Toyotas compact car slated to be launched in India by Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) two years from now.
Speaking to media on the sidelines of the launch of traffic safety education initiative, the Managing Director of TKM, Mr Hiroshi Nakagawa, said the new compact car is currently under development at Toyota Motor Corporations R&D in Japan with significant contribution from Indian engineers. At present a contingent of 50 engineers are involved in the project, he said.
Asked if Toyota Motor Corporation is developing the compact car on the lines of Innova (where the development and manufacturing of modules for the vehicle were carried out in different countries), he said, Innova, was a utility vehicle while the proposed car will be different not only in terms of model but also strategy. The company plans a sedan and a hatchback in the proposed compact car.
Unlike Innova, which was launched in overseas markets first and latter came to India, the proposed car would be initially introduced in India. Initially the company would source components from Toyotas facilities outside India. However, the goal is to have high local content to make the car competitive, he indicated. Therefore TKM would look at manufacturing engines also for the compact car in India, he added.

Toyota Yaris in India

Toyota Kirloskar Motors India has put its small car program on fast-track for its small car, Yaris, to be launched in India. More than 50 engineers are toiling their way at Toyota's Chennai plant to speed up the launch of the new small car model in India from Toyota. The company currently holds 3 percent market share in the country while it is a global auto leader by sales. It plans to capture more than 10 percent market share by 2015.

The new car for India is also under testing and development at company's research and development centre in Japan. It would be a Toyota Yaris look alike, commented Hiroshi Nakagawa, MD, Toyota Kirloskar Motor India. He also stated that the company also plans to launch a sedan and a hatchback model in the compact car segment.

Toyota started modestly in 1997 with a capacity of producing 27,000 cars annually at its Chennai plant and increased its capacity by an average of 18 percent each year. Now it has laid foundation for its second plant in India in Karnataka. Once the small car project is complete, it shall establish a second plant there which would scale up its investments and equipments in the country. It shall also expand its dealer network in India to boost its sales.

Car India has carried svsantosh's pics in this month's issue. However they have not given any credit to either him nor TEAM-BHP. Speaks volumes about the kind of ethics these people have . First they don't give any credit to person who actually took the pics and on top of that label them as exclusive spy pics.

Recently I came across news that the Toyota iQ is an entirely new architecture and has innovations like differential that is placed ahead of engine to free some space, etc. So basically, more space efficiency in infused into and having spent a lot of money doing so, Toyota now plans to use this car's underpinnings for three cars. The first car will be Toyota Yaris that is expected around 2011.

IMO, the new Yaris will make debut sometime in 2010 and eventually we will be getting the latest Yaris rather than this car.
