Best : The Amby's rear sear err.. sofa!
Worst : Swift's Rear seat.

Doesn't qualify too be bad, but a long drive on an Octavia's rear seat left me with a very sore back, the front seat was push considerably too the back too, short trips are okay.

Best : Indica/Indigo

Good : Ikon/ NHC/ Optra/ Tavera etc..

Average : Verna, Aveo, Qualis, maybe SX4

Bad : Scorpio, M800

Worst : Most Marutis + esteem + sumo + santro - infact I find 800 better than some of them!

best- Indigo XL, Sumo Grande (even 3rd row seats are comfortable for long journeys to a 6-footer like me)

worst- The title is clinched by the Alto. I can't find a way to sit. I can only crouch.

Why do many people say the Tata vehicles have comfortable seating is because the entire car was designed to comfortably ingest and seat 4 or 5 people. I remember reading somewhere that the Tata engineers were told to design the Indica with 4 or 5 humans each the size of Ratan Tata (6-footer).

But on the other hand, the Maruti WagonR or the Estilo were designed to haul passengers of smaller body sizes in abroad countries. The average size of a Japanese or Chinese is smaller than the average size of an Indian. What's your opinion?

The previous Sumo was one of the worst in all 3 types of seats, the indi-family got better.

This is b'coz these cars were originally designed for something called K-car norms which specified certain exterior dimensions for availing certain exemptions. Its not really about the size of the people.

Though you can probably relate them to the size of the country . Americans are sure not the biggest people around.

i10 is sold in India, but Hyundai won't sell it in the U.S of A, because it is too small for the Americans-

you can check this article out- Hyundai admits i10 too small for U.S., i20 and i30 being considered - Autoblog

I learned that when car makers design a car, they take into consideration the markets they are going to sell and the average sizes of people who are going to drive and travel in their car. Even read a complete story on how the Fiat Uno was designed with Europeans and their body sizes in mind.

Tata Indica/Indigo was primarily for the Indians, though eventually it crawled into U.K and parts of Europe. SLK is right about the K car.

That's entire product line of Maruti! In short you could have said 'All Marutis'.

As far as my experience goes,

Best : Indigo XL in Saloons and Indica Vista in Hatchbacks.

Worst : Swift, Verna.

Observations:

The Alto is too cramped to talk about posture or ride!
The Ikon is very very comfortable.
The Amby is unbeatable!

One negative of the Indica rear bench. With 3 people occupying it, the 2 people sitting at either end are not parallel to the ground, maybe due to the inclination of the seat or the floorboard. It brings on a neck-ache within an hour or travel. This prompts a fight for the middle seat!

The Getz rear bench is as wide as the Indica's, and flatter. But the ride is slightly harsher.

Questions:

Can anyone comment on the rear bench comfort of the Palio Stile, as compared to the Indica or the Getz?

Is there any difference between the 1.6 which has front stabilizing bars, and the MJD and the 1.1 which don't have it?

Best - Ikon (have driven a lot, nobody in rear have ever had any discomfort)
Good - Magnum (only for its leg room in the rear, but lately i have realized that for long journey rear seats are not that comfy)
Wagon R and Swift (As somebody said, put your worst enemy in rear with dark films and all, its would be Sajaaye Kaala Paani )
