This will at least reduce chances of lemons being passed on to its customers (suckers like me for instance). But based car prices for pre-owned Skodas in carwale.com, the resale price of 35 - 45% seem to be on the lower side.

For instance a April 2006 Skoda Laura L&K AT (The high end equivalent of the Jetta) is quoted at Rs 12 lakhs by the seller while the ex-showroom price of a new piece is about Rs 17 lakhs and on road may be say Rs 19.5 lakhs. Even if the above seller brings down his price by about 10 - 12%, we are talking of Rs 10.5 lakhs as a fair value of a 3 year old Laura L&K, which is at 55% of current on-road price.

If VW guarantees re-purchase of even say 45% of ex-showroom price, that would be about 40% of on-road price, which is a 15% spread over the current market value. Maybe VW will then pay this spread as they are giving the higher of 45% or market price.

So how do they benefit?

Cheers,

To me it looks like an old painting done here and was not completed. This Jetta for sure and dont expect a cheaper version. What will they offer in that, 1.4 ltr NA petrol ?

And I did check the VW india website, forget information, not even a single add about this coming soon vehicle. Either this is old painting or indeed a new version is coming but soon = 4-6 months for India.

I initially thought this to be sedan version of Polo, but it is not that also. VW is not cooking any new stories that is what I understand. They are busy with the updated Octavia ( Laura in India ) and new Superb.

Don't go by carewale.com their figures are wayyy off !

This scheme seems interesting, lets see what VW's terms and conditions are before we get down to doing the math and concluding the offer a waste.

For your information, RK Swamy is not VW's advertising agency.

May be VW is taking a chance and offering a 50% value for the car after 3years. (Anyways 40% is a certain return on diesel models, only a 10% is the chance VW is taking. That is about Rs. 1.5 to 2.0 Lakhs. However, VW will get 15 to 19.5 lakhs or say (13 to 17 lakhs ex showroom) into their account today. And for the same they would consider it like paying a 1.5 to 2.0 lakh interest for a period of 3 years in the worst case of resale value at 40% (which is not bad as it works out to about 3.8% interest rate p.a!!! Thats cool.) So, VW might manage to sell more cars, get more money (@3.8% instead of 13 -16% industrial rate)

By mid 2012, VW would have established itself to bother too much about these debts and would clear them.

Expected cars to be launched by VW are:

1. VW Passat CC (mid 2009)
2. VW Beetle (Oct 2009)
3. VW Polo sedan (new gen 1st qtr 2010)
4. VW Tiguan (2010)
5. VW Jetta (new gen. end 2010)
6. Small car based on Up (may be VW Fox in mid - end 2010 / early 2011)
7. VW Touareg (new gen end 2010)
8. VW Phaeton (2010/2011 new gen., not sure though)
9. VW Golf (CBU 2010, not certain though)

So before, mid 2012 if VW gets going, then they wouldn't bother spending 1.5 to 2.0 lakhs on a few thousand cars.

ALSO, the cars they sell needs to be serviced and maintained at VW service stations to keep warranty intact. They would recover that 1.5 to 2 lakhs to whatever extent possible in the service & spares.

Yes it might hit their notional margins to that extent, however, low profit is much better than no profit especially in this capital intensive industry.

^^+1.

Yesterday I concluded that this was an old hoarding and today I came across this ad in TOI ( Times of India ).
I am sure this is Jetta and not any other car.

The possibilities are :
1) A better 1.8 petrol unit, may be the non turbo version of new Superb's 1.8.
2) A more powerful diesel with CRDi.
3) Cheaper and upgraded looks variant.
4) One more engine option apart from the two already offered.

I had once read somewhere about VW's plans of bringing in Passat CC. I think its what is featured in the Advertisements.
Also in today's Times Of India says VW plans official Polo launch in 2010 Auto Expo along with Skoda Yeti.

Why would they spend soooo much on publicity if it wasn't a new car? That doesn't make sense to me.

In that case, depreciation is the full story! Nothing depreciates like a Phaeton.

India-bound cars shine at Geneva

Even i saw the ad near cauvery theater in Bangalore , Ended up slowing the traffic looking at that. For a while i thought that polo may come early to fight with jazz , but faded when i saw a sedan.
