I hope they bring out both the 74 bhp and 88 bhp versions. Buyers can choose based on their requirements, but in India its highly unlikely.

90BHP realistically stated as 88BHP cannot come to india as it requires Low Sulphur Diesel. So the indian i20 CRdi will have 74 BHP engine.

Even in europe both versions are available 88BHP (Low Sulphur Diesel) and 74BHP (High Sulphur Diesel).

Can it be detuned for Indian diesel to about 82-84bhp?

Why detune for high sulfur diesel?? The more the sulfur content the better it is for the engine. Of course, the emission system will have to be changed, to take care of the higher sulfur content.
So low octant petrol needs detuning, but where diesel is concerned, no such thing needed.

I love this forum.

I spoke to a Hyundai dealer on Tuesday and asked him about the i20 diesel. He insisted end 2009, maybe early 2010. I kept telling me that i have heard its coming earlier etc but no cigar.

On friday, I got a call from him saying i20 IS coming and they should be on road within July.

That is great news. I hope Hyundai would not cut down on features much to keep the price in control.

+1: Somehow I also have this feeling that it will be a Deja-vu of the Getz CRDi pricing story. If they price it competitively (read to blow away the swift/Punto), then it should be fun.
