I saw the same car at same place today at the same time. This time i parked my vehicle and went upto the driverand posed as a i20 petrol owner and asked him a few info. He said the diesel is not yet launched and he was sent for testing. He didnt know much about the details but showed me the sticker stuck on the rear left quarter glass. It said 1.4l GSL M5. He said it is giving 22kmpl now when he is testing. He told that it didnt have ABS and still has a few issues which they are correcting. I had a good peep into the interior and it was the same from i20 petrol version and no visible difference. the driver didnt knew either. It had alloys . No ABS sticker though..

No info on BHP either......

For 1.4l to give 22kmpl from my calculations should be not more than 75bhp and if it is 90bhp then it is a breakthrough in technology........

Even 75 bhp and 22 kmpl would be a breakthrough!

22 Kmpl with 90 bhp not a big deal for hyundai 1.4 crdi.

according to autocar's UK website data. it gave 62.4 miles per gallon on a combined city + higway cycle.

in the UK spec the hyundai makes 88 bhp. so probably hyundai will sell it in india as a "90 PS" engine.

now the conversion part.

62.4 miles per gallon come out to be 26.58 kilometer per liter

Definitely UK conditions are better with fast clean roads. 22kmpl in chennai roads with mixed bumper to bumper traffic is something you can never get in 90bhp IMHO. Testing conditions vary too....

Somehow i trust hyundai to deliver CRDI vehicles with decent mileage figures, from my experinces with the Accent CRDi and the Verna CRDi.

The i20 also looks really hot , a crappy pricing would be the only way these guys can screw up this car in the market segement which is becoming hotter and hotter by the day .

for a comparison, the same website quotes 62.8 combined cycle for 1.3 punto multijet 74 bhp.

somewhere around 26.7 kmpl

Even if you discount that 26.7 by some 20% for Indian conditions, you still get a combined cycle of 22 Kmpl! That should surely be a hit amongst the economy conscious Indians, who however might be put off by the 7 lakh plus likely price tag..

Is this with the 1.4 petrol or the 1.2?

Well, the problem here is that in UK it is imperial gallon which translates to about 4.55 litres. So 62.4mpg is same as about 22kmpl.

I am not too sure if the driver would even bother about the mileage figures. I think he has been asked to quote "22 kmpl"

Very likely! Especially to all the extra knowledge enquirers who seem to ask too many questions (paparazzi, auto curious guys like us etc.. ).

hmmm ... that might be the case.
but i was just saying that 22 kmpl with a 90 bhp engine does not seem too far fetched these days.

This is a breaking news for me. If hyundai is releasing i20 CRDi by july first week then i shall wait before i book my Emotion+ MJD.

I just spoke to a saleguy in Trident hyundai, bangalore and he has confirmed the launch is next week.

And it is 1.4 CRDi 90bhp and there is a 1.4 petrol version too.

Hope it is 6.2 ex showroom
