Maruti R III New MPV

Maruti is planning to launch a new mini MPV based on the existing SX4 platform. It remains to be seen whether its going to be the SX4 hatch sold abroad from which the current sedan is derived. It will complement the Maruti Eeco. The concept will be displayed at the upcoming Auto Expo in New Delhi though it may take upto 2 years for the actual product to roll off the production line.

This is again a good move from Maruti. Thy could bring the SX4 MPV to fill the gap in this segment. Procong and kit level would be a major factor deciding the success of such a car.

Will try and do that next time. Incidentally Autocar is carrying a picture of the new WagonR on its cover for the Jan2010 issue as seen on the ACI website. Don't know if that's the one they are planning to launch in April.

Anyhow the debate on the original SX4 hatch should start now. Are they going to bring this in or is it going to be a new design on based on the current SX4 platform? Going by the time frame provided (1.5 to 2 years) it seems to be the former that is more likely.

Have a look at this, as both the news are contradictory.

1) When Suzuki is going to show Concept.

Maruti Suzuki India is all set to unveil ‘Concept R3′ a first compact multi-purpose vehicle or MPV at the forthcoming Auto Expo 2010 in January.

The 6-seater MPV has been conceptualized , designed and built from the search by a team of talented Indian designers in India over a short time span of nine months. It represents the next level of skill enhancement of Maruti Suzuki engineers.
autoten.com expect the car is all new platfrom that lauch in next 1 or 2 year to replace the 2 car model of Maruti Versa and Suzuki APV as the Maruti versa was minorchange, get new KB-serise engine ,will got a lot price down and renamed it call Eeco to replace the Maruti Suzuki Omni.
2) Maruti is going to launch APV in 2010.

Article :
Quote:
Maruti has stopped production of its multi-utility vehicle (MUV) Versa and will launch a new van selling now in international market call Apv (or Apv arena in indonesia) thewihicle rumore to be displayed at the Auto Expo in jan. 2010 but expect to hit
showroom before first quater of 2010
The Versa, since it was launched in 2001, sold about 20,000 units. The new product is expected to be priced under Rs 5 lakh.
(500,000 rupee)
Maruti has already stopped the product of Versa as the sales were too low.

Maruti said: “We will be launching a new van by the end of this fiscal. This vehicle will replace the Versa, whose production has already been stopped.”

The new model codenamed as O2 at its Gurgaon plant is under modification to meet indian market.. The new model may be christened as Eco when launched but so far there is no new information about actual the product but admin of autoten.com
expect the will be the car that currently market outside india name Suzuki apv.
What can we derive out of this :

a) Maurti is going to launch Versa with some changes which can extend to both interior and exterior as Ecco. Mostly priced below Rs. 4 lakh.

b) They are going to come up with APV later in 2010 and will be placed at approximately Rs. 5 lakh.

c) Suzuki is currently working on a new people mover, mostly 6 seater, and it will replace both APV and Ecco.

i think they means that Suzuki japan will also use concept R3 to replace current indonesia's build Suzuki APV and that mean indonesia and international market that are now sell the apv will get the concept R3 to replace apv in next 2 year

The picture looks like a compressed SX4 hatch sold overseas. Who knows probably Maruti may bring that in with 2 seats * 3 row seating arrangement.

As per information trickling in from BSM website the R III concept will be displayed at the Auto Expo 2010. It is expected to come with the famed 1.3 DDIS in addition to a new K series 1.4 unit. Based on the SX4 platform, its expected to go on sale in late 2011. Looks like they are aiming to place it in between the Dzire and the SX4.
