New car from Ford

Read in ACI that Ford india is gearing up to launch a C+ segment car this december. There were some spy pics too, but they doesnt clearly give any idea about the shape of the car!
Engine specs mentioned were 1.6L Petro, 1.4 Diesel. Strange that they introudce a smaller diesel power plant!

Hmmm if it is a spyshot and they dont know the name how possibly they could have got the hint about engines? There were some pics of the engine also.

Surprisingly, I saw an ad for Ford Focus on one of those South Indian lingo channels, but I guess the programming for them is common with the South East Asian countries.

I didnt mean that it is a Focus. Neither did ACI. There was article in Overdrive about the launch of Ford Focus (lower D segment at 11L) in October 2005. But the one i referred here is the news from Autocar india that talks about a replacement car for Ford or one in the league of NHC with a 1.6L petrol engine(C segment at 7-8L).

Only other car that fits the bill is the new Fiesta sedan with 1.6 Duratec and 1.4 Tdci diesel. But this would be B+ segment.

No this is a City size car with the same engine as the fusion with a 1.4l JTD as an addition. It's not the Ikon replacement, it will be positioned one segment above the Ikon. Expect this to be well engineered for indian roads and ofcourse carry forward the Josh theme. Ford will continue with the Ikon, no point in localizing the whole damn engine and then replacing the car!! I don't think fords going to launch the focus any time soon.

No. The Overdrive issues is June 2005. They predict launch of Ford focus in October 2005 with a 1.8L duratec petrol engine and possible a 1.8L duratorq diesel engine and priced above 10L to compete with octavia, corolla, optra (1.8).

ACI July issues talks about a complete new car. They didnt refer to it as the Fiesta. But the engine options seem to match what you have mentioned. The price predicted is above 7L. Launch predicted to be in December 2005.

But really wonder if Ford is planning aggressive enough to launch two products in such a small window.

I'd read on NDTV ticker that Ford had mentioned about not introducing Focus in India.

well focus is not a d segment car but a c+.Secondly no other car is said to be rumoured to make into india at present from the ford stable. SO maybe ford will strip down the focus and then price it around 7-8 lacs.

New Indian Boss at Ford

Also a change of leadership for Indian operations for Ford.

Read this article at TOI web site.

Its a good move as the present boss was not doing enough. Lets hope they get some new cars from the Mazda stable too in the future. Would be marvelous for them.

Today's hindu article refers to a "new world premium car" from Ford that will be placed above Ikon. This car is going to be launched in india first and then globally. So it is not the Focus or Fiesta!!

That Hindu article LandCruiser referred to above also mentions that the new car is specifically designed for Indian roads and keeping in mind the Indian market. So why are they calling it a "world premium" car?
