Traffic rules and signs

Let us see how many of us can recognize the gesture this traffic policeman is making?

I could not find any post or thread about traffic rules, signs and etiquette on TBHP site. Please excuse me, if I am wrong and guide me to appropriate thread. Else we can continue the discussion about trafficology.

IMO it means the road ends here and a swamp/lake starts or maybe I don't know.

Not a pier for sure, as there was none.

Just behind the sign is where the road boundary ends and you (the car) can end up in the river.

I saw this sign in Uttarkashi and is located between Rishikesh - Tehri stretch.

Till date couldn't understand the exact meaning of this sign - may be just a way to show danger ahead.
