re: Cars with bonnets visible for drivers

From my personal exp:

Hyundai Sonata (jaguar look): Pretty decent sized bonnet is visible.

Apart from this, Ford Figo, Ford Fiesta and Ford Ikon all show more or less the same glimps of the bonnet.

Older Cars which I have driven with Bonnet View:

Tata Sierra, Tata Mobile, Scorpio (First Gen, even now it shows up though)

Latest addtion to the list:

Renaul Duster!!!

Cheers!

And once you go up a gradient, there is literally no way to know where you are heading to, because all you can see is the blue sky and nothing else :(
And worse part is, this is true even if the incline is just above normal one.

re: Cars with bonnets visible for drivers

After going through this thread, i cant make out if its an advantage if you can see the bonnet fully.

I strongly believe that the design should make sure that you can see the road and not the bonnet. If you see bonnet then your visibility is being blocked to some extent !!

Hyundai Accent is one of the cars where the driver will be able to see the bonnet clearly. I'm not sure whether the visible bonnet blocks the view or not. But, it surely gives a bit more confidence while driving.Especially, in congested roads.

Adding Tata Safari to the list.

I personly feel better driving a car with bonnet visible, somehow it gives me a feeling of driving a big car.
If you compare City & Accent, they both are of same size but you will feel the size of Accent while driving, but in city i get a feeling of a small car. Just my thoughts

I think what you mean is that you prefer a very short bonnet in order to allow for greater visibility of the road. I guess we're talking about visibility of the bonnet, and not necessarily the bonnet length.

For a given bonnet length, the seating can either allow you to view either the bonnet + road ahead, or just the road ahead. I'm just saying that 'visibility' of the bonnet takes nothing away from overall road visibility - if anything, it can only aid it. For a fixed bonnet length, it would always be easier to drive with the bonnet visible, though it does boil down to personal preferences.

Personally, I have always had this fascination for bonnet visibility since childhood. For some psychological reason I can't identify, it seems to add to the awareness of driving a car (or a truck). Right now, I drive the huge, 3-tonne Chevy Suburban in the US and the seating still doesn't give me a clear view of the 5-feet-high bonnet much against what I'd hoped for. Yet, I don't get any better visibility of the road immediately ahead of the truck.

Exactly.

Maybe this could be due to the factor that we can relate or perceive the condition/proximity of the road/surroundings with respect to the vehicle, if we are able to see a part of the vehicle also, as such.
The same reason for which, I prefer to adjust my wing mirrors in such a way that the car body is also visible, albeit taking a very marginal space of the view area.

re: Cars with bonnets visible for drivers

Isuzu Gemini 1.8D 1983

The flat bonnet:

View from inside:

The Trunk area slops downwards allowing the best rear view:

The Trunk:

Trunk Capacity:

Car manufacturers have seriously forgotten the right way to design the car. Now what we get is slopping front and flat trunk area and that too at a height when viewed from the driver's seat (example: ford ikon, new swift dzire and many others)

For more pictures of the car, please click here.

re: Cars with bonnets visible for drivers

In hyundai accent, You can see the Bonnet very clearly. I know because, it's my daily drive.

IMO the bonnet should be clearly visible, it really helps while driving in congested areas. In Accent, you can see where the bonnet ends, very clearly.

Cheers
