India- 2013

We may get this car as the Octavia in 2013 and it will replace the Laura. The Laura Badge will be taken off the market. Skoda India has confirmed that he Octavia badge will return.

We may get the Euro Rapid badged as the Octavia in 2013 to fit into the void the previous generation Octavia has left (the one that sold in India as the Octavia). The India Rapid competes with City and Verna and it has not really filled in the shoes of the old gen Octavia.
Your comments further add to the confusion.
The Laura was placed a bit higher than the Octavia.
Now, if they bring the Octavia back as the replacement of Laura, it would be perched a bit up than the older Octavia.
So, to fill the gap, they'll bring Euro Rapid, which cannot be named as Octavia

I don’t think there is any confusion. What Nikhil is saying is, instead of bringing the upcoming Octavia as a replacement to Laura (which is the current Octavia globally), Skoda may look to bring the Euro Rapid to India. These all still are guess-games IMHO.

Now on your comment that Laura was placed a bit higher than Octavia; that happened only in India because Skoda wanted to keep the then popular Octavia, and sell the next generation along-side. Effectively they were selling MK1 and MK2 Octavia side-by-side.

Personally I would like to see the new Octavia (which is being discussed in this thread) in India. It can still get priced below the Jetta, especially since the latter is priced so high.

I know they sold Mk1 and 2 simultaneously thats why the Laura moniker originated.
I think the euro Rapid would be approx the same size as Indian Rapid. To introduce it as Octavia, they need to make it look a bit bigger. Also, they would need to keep the Laura badge alive for the actual new gen Octavia which they wanted to kill and call an Octavia an Octavia in India too.

It looks good all round but there is something about the front fascia that puts me off, particularly the headlights. It just doesn't match the front end. Why the need to have the same headlight design like the jetta The laura has much better headlight design than this next generation model IMHO

Quite a good looking car IMO. The stance looks typically European. Are those 18" wheels? That surely won't make it to India. They entire look of the car goes for a toss when they put 15" wheels with narrow high profile tyres and raise the ride height of the car for India . Can't blame the manufacturer though. Our roads need such a set up.

They should go in for 16" with 195 section rubbers for India. Who knows, they might even consider 205 section this time but quite doubtful.

That should be standard. Even the current Laura have 205/55 16" tyres. The base variant have 15" 195/65. I don't see a reason to downsize in the new model.

I liked the color change in the Skoda logo

Skoda Rapid review report by Autocar UK:

As per them, it a sensible buy... yet won't entice the enthusiasts.

Re: 2013 MQB Skoda Octavia

More Images revealed!
2013 MQB Skoda Octavia-skodaoctaviateaser4.jpg
The most revealing image is of the dashboard, which features a range of familiar VW Group components. Skoda has previously said it will introduce more upmarket versions with more luxurious cabins.
The Octavia’s engine line-up will closely follow that of the Golf, Leon and A3, with the core range likely to be a 138bhp 1.4 TSI petrol and a 104bhp 1.6 TDI diesel.

Not surprising at all. Skoda has had AWD TSI option for a while now on the 1.8Tsi octavias
