VW has confirmed the 2013 Skoda Octavia. It is going to be the 4th car over the MQB platform after Audi A3, Seat Leon and upcoming Golf MK 7

The new Skoda Octavia is on its way. Volkswagen revealed at the Moscow Motor Show that the hatchback will be unveiled before the end of the year and hit showrooms early in 2013.....

.....Thanks to various weight-saving measures, the new chassis should mean the next generation Skoda Octavia is significantly lighter than the model it replaces. This weight saving, combined with an impressive range of diesel and turbo petrol engines from the VW Group stable, should ensure reduced emissions over the outgoing car.....

And the new Octavia will be larger than its predecessor, too, in order to provide a clear distinction between it and the new Rapid in the growing Skoda line-up.

Engines:

Engines for the new Octavia will be taken from the new VW Golf. The staple engines of the range are likely to be a 1.4 TSI petrol with cylinder deactivation technology, and a 1.6 TDI that should slip below the 100g/km CO2 emission threshold even in models not badged as super-frugal Octavia Greelines.

A potent vRS version will top the line-up, using a version of the EA888 turbocharged 2.0-litre petrol engine destined for the new VW Golf.

Skoda has confirmed it will reveal the next-generation Skoda Octavia before the end of 2012, with a public debut taking place at Geneva Motor Show, 2013. Sales will begin in the UK in summer 2013.

Both estate and hatchback versions of the Octavia will be shown this year with a “special Octavia”, likely to be the vRS, due for Goodwood Festival of Speed 2013, according to Dr Winfried Vahland, board chairman of Skoda Auto.

It is no secret that the Octavia will grow in size and move more upmarket to make space for the new Rapid (prices for which will start from £12,900) in the line-up

"The new Octavia is finished, everything is ready. Now, it is in demanding testing. Octavia looks very sporty. I think you'll like it. Every time I see it, I'm happy," said Josef Kaban, the chief designer for the car, who back in June revealed it will be shown by the end of 2012.

It is not the old model for sure. If one compares the lower part of the gril and the ORVMs it looks very similar to the camouflaged car shown above.

It seems to be bigger than the current Laura.

Looks like the current gen Laura to me, with some cosmetic changes.
The ORVM's, the headlights and the side profile make it look very much like the current gen Laura.

The pic in the topspeed link is of the Mission L Concept, that has already been discussed in another thread. Moreover, by the looks of it, it looks like an elongated hatch/station wagon. Highly unlikely that this version would make it to our shores.

The headlights look like the older Hyundai Sonata, the model before the fluidic design came into play.

I think this car is wearing the very famous VW camouflage wherein body of an older car is used to cover the body of new car. As an example see these photos of European Rapid wearing Indian Rapid's body:



Notice the clever camouflage:

Mission L and Vision D are just the design studies. They previewed the future design direction of Skoda cars.

Front three quarter view reminds me of the Manza. Guess it's because of the low slung front and a high rear portion.

I know this is just the test version, So I'm expecting the production version to be as beautiful as existing Octavia at least.

The reason the front doesnt appear to be enticing, is because it has been camouflaged. See the extra sheet (metal/stickers) over the headlamps. Thats an indication.
Again, not much changes to the existing design, except maybe an addition of a sunroof (slight hints on the roof indicate a sunroof present), that was given a miss in the existing version.
