Re: 2013 MQB Skoda Octavia

Now this is a car thats a whole lot better looking than the Jetta ! Skoda please bring it to India.
I really hope they get the pricing right, somewhat like the current Laura which is good value for what one gets.

Re: 2013 MQB Skoda Octavia

I think the car looks very German in design and will stand out from the others in the segment. Looks like a big threat to the Jetta, which already is not doing so well. Now if VW want to position Skoda as a cheaper brand and price the Octavia lower than the Jetta (ala Vento Vs Rapid) then its surely going to cannibalise the Jetta!

Motorbeam has confirmed a May 2013 launch for the new Octavia in India. It is supposed to slot between current Laura and Superb in 16-20 lacs bracket.

Any idea which all engines might come to India?

Re: 2013 MQB Skoda Octavia

Design is super clean! (except for the weirdness going on where the rear window sill line meets the C-pillar). Love the taillights, even tho it's similar to the previous gen A6. Parts sharing within the VAG group is quite obvious with this one.
I wonder what they'll do with the Superb now. Especially after increasing the wheelbase of this new Octy by 108mm and making it longer by 90mm.

Looks pretty sweet in silver.

Re: 2013 MQB Skoda Octavia

All details on the new Octavia are now updated on the Skoda global website:
http://new.skoda-auto.com/en/models/new-octavia/entry

The version I liked best was the Greenline diesel 1.6 TDI which claims 3.4 L/ 100km !

Looks exciting and to me it looks quite BMW-esque? Features list is also very long but will these be useful in India?

Re: 2013 MQB Skoda Octavia

Here are the latest pics of the all new Octavia.

Courtesy - Carscoop

The new Octavia is 90mm longer at 4,659mm, 45mm wider at 1,814mm, and more importantly, the wheelbase has been stretched by 108mm to 2,686mm, something that mainly benefits the interior and space on the rear seats.

The front head room has increased by 8 mm, front elbow width by 39 mm and rear elbow width by 26 mm over the outgoing Octavia. According to Skoda, the Octavia offers a class-leading interior space in the compact segment with 1,782 mm of interior length and the largest boot with a volume of 590 liters.

The new Octavia Mk3 will make it to the European market next spring with a selection of eight turbocharged petrol and diesel engines. These include a 1.4-liter TSI petrol delivering 120hp (122PS), a 1.8-liter TSI petrol producing 177hp (180PS) and a 1.6-liter TDI, which in GreenLine trim generates 109hp (110PS) returning 3.4lt/100km (69.2mpg US or 83.1mpg UK) with CO2 emissions of just 89 g/km.

Skoda said manual and DSG transmissions are available, with all-wheel-drive versions in the works.

A performance RS (vRS in the UK) version fitted with the same 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine as the next VW Golf GTI will follow late next year as well.

The new Octavia will be formally introduced to the public at next year's Geneva Motor Show in March.

Re: 2013 MQB Skoda Octavia

And here I thought VW had asked Skoda to reposition itself as the lower brand. This seems like a notch above the Jetta. I really do hope they bring a fully loaded L&K variant here, and also a vRS. They will have one customer waiting for them come May. I have a feeling this will do to its segment what the Superb did a few years ago.

The car looks unbelievably good. Keep up the good work Skoda. The current Jetta seems blown away in comparison.

I love everything that i have seen so far about the car. What i don't know is the price. With the car now grown, you can expect to see the price following the same.
But the Laura is already quite expensive, i believe the new one will cannibalise even the Superb!

Just thinking, where is the space to position this between the Laura and Superb? Hope it’s just a speculation, and they don’t go on selling old and new model side by side.

A better and improved car at current Laura’s price bracket should make an excellent case in its category.

Re: 2013 MQB Skoda Octavia

What a stunner!

The front end just looks awesome. Clean, understated European looks. Very modern too! The Octavia has always been a good looking car from Skoda which has got better and better with every new version.

I really hope they bring the car with maximum engine options and specs. But I am afraid VW India is going to play spoil sport here. Their ego will not allow them to price this car higher than the Jetta. And If they don't, this car will do to the Jetta what the Superb is doing to the Passat.

I doubt they will do this. Heres why i think it wont happen...

1) There already exists a price overlap between the laura and the superb. The current gen Laura L&k is priced more than the base model Superb. I dont think they'll be able to squeeze in another model in between these two cars

2) VW have made it clear that the skoda brand will be re-positioned in India such that skoda sits below VW. Which means skoda has to price their cars lower than its big brother VW's corresponding model. So, theoretically it cant be priced more than the jetta.

The only way i can see what you suggested happening is if they significantly slash the prices of the Laura and sell the new octavia at the existing laura price.

I cant wait for this to come to India. Would be interesting to see if all those new features are offered to us. As usual pricing would be key.
