Saw the episode and it was an okay watch. They're going to have to up their game quite a bit if the series has to go on. With TGT doing only specials and the pandemic getting more serious, looks like they might not have a lot of options.

Yep, they're being roasted all over the internet!

James told TVMag that any tension or hostility between the presenters was not allowed to be seen on the show.

He shared: "There's genuine friction, we have to tone it down for television otherwise it wouldn't be allowed.

The format for this special series is getting repetitive now.

This episode was downright boring.

Please for old time's sake, surprise me guys.

I fell asleep while watching the borefest and mind you, I have survived some pretty boring episodes from season 4 and 5. Sad stuff.

The reason for the bore is because the show is very predictable. The pranks are predictable. The dialogues too !. There has to kick in some kind of an 'aha' for the coming episodes, and I hope it does. And lets admit it, the three of them do look old and it shows trivially.

That said, I might be on the other side where I did not mind this show. Though not as great as the past, it still made me feel nice after an hour.

Honestly, I believe the main problem is with the changed format. Earlier, one special a year felt, well - special! But now, when you do only specials, you lose the novelty factor of having a special once a year. People underestimate the importance of the studio for the chemistry between the trio and banter between the trio during the 'news' and the 'cheap car' challenges all contributed to its success. Without all that and just with the specials, it has all gone a bit stale. Also, cut-out all the scenes which makes it seem too cinematic like when May was solving the puzzle. We know everything is scripted but they don't have to make it soo obvious.

A key reason is that in the old format with a tent, the long travel was broken up with a quick road test or another topic. Over here, you have one long boring adventure.

Must add that the productivity is abysmal. 7-8 months for 90 min of crap. Top Gear came out with 4 hours of engaging stuff in 3 months.

Did anyone notice the rickshaw? Probably made in India? Also nice to see Airtel on Jezzas cellphone.

Due to the huge delay in airing this Madagascar special, I revisited some of the old episodes from the Grand Tour, and watching this one after that made it even more boring for me. The cars couldn't be compared in any ways, for a large part of the episode they weren't even driving as a trio! And we got the point about bad roads, the repetitive insistence went overboard for me personally, and I had to sit through till the end with a grumpy face!

And on that terrible disappointment, lets get over this episode :D

Is TG available on any OTT platform? Discovery plus has old version but not new ones.

Looks like the Hamster and Tory Belleci are getting a new show called The Great Escapists.

Looks interesting. Launches on 29th January.

James may talks about a travel show plan for this year (3:30). They apparently had a plan to travel to India in time for a Major Hindu festival (probably Diwali) but it is on hold due to COVID restrictions.

That doesn't surprise me at all having meet 2 out of the 3. Hammond is a good guy and can be quite friendly. Clarkson is completely the opposite.

These guys take so long to produce one onerous trip. The later Top Gear UK team have put together two brilliant seasons totally nearly 8 episodes during the same time.

I do think that they're tired, feeling their age, and essentially have worked together for too long. The chemistry in great escapists between Tory belleci and Richard was almost better than the three guys on specials. In studio/tent was also a little on the decline. Original TG news was a feature which I liked forward to. Conversation street just doesn't match up. And that's gone too.
I think they'll fade away with their specials also, and I'm glad that the BBC version has managed to capture a bit of the original magic.

Pity, but it's amazing that did so well for so long, and entertained so much. :)
