We have to remember that Tesla is most shorted stock right now. That means there are many people who benefit when the stock falls. There are continuous negative reports about Tesla for the last 1 year and its increasing every day.

On the other hand production is now at 7,000 cars per week including 5000 Model 3s. Model 3 is already best selling luxury sedan in US ahead of BMW 3 series, Mercedes C class, Audi A4, etc... In next 2 quarters they will sell more Model 3s than 3 series, C class and A4 combined in US. Most important thing is, thousands of people already bought one by paying $50,000 without even driving it. They don't even advertise them.

Tesla takes desperate measures to achieve profitability!

Tesla seeks cash from suppliers as refund to a portion of what the auto maker has already spent to help it become profitable.

Quote:
A memo provided to the newspaper shows Tesla requested the supplier return what it calls a meaningful amount of money on its payments since 2016. The memo said all suppliers were being asked to help the company become profitable.

The electric car company declined to comment on the specific memo but confirmed that it is seeking price reductions from suppliers for projects, some of which date back that far.

Re: The Tesla Model 3, a $35,000 sedan. EDIT: Specs revealed & deliveries begin

Tesla's response to the above article by WSJ:

“Negotiation is a standard part of the procurement process, and now that we’re in a stronger position with Model 3 production ramping, it is a good time to improve our competitive advantage in this area. We’re focused on reaching a more sustainable long term cost basis, not just finding one-time reductions for this quarter, and that’s good for Tesla, our shareholders, and our suppliers who will also benefit from our increasing production volume and future growth opportunities. We asked fewer than 10 suppliers for a reduction in total capex project spend for long-term projects that began in 2016 but are still not complete, and any changes with these suppliers would improve our future cash flows, but not impact our ability to achieve profitability in Q3. The remainder of our discussions with suppliers are entirely focused on future parts price and design or process changes that will help us lower fundamental costs rather than prior period adjustments of capex projects. This is the right thing to do.”

Elon Musk tweets, Tesla's stock tumbles

Shares are down more than 3% after The Wall Street Journal reported that Tesla (TSLA) is asking some suppliers for partial refunds, another sign of a cash crunch at the company.

Re: The Tesla Model 3, a $35,000 sedan. EDIT: Specs revealed & deliveries begin

Interesting observations about energy efficiencies and charging speeds by German reviewers on Autobahn for Tesla Model 3/S/X and Jaguar I-PACE:

Jaguar I PACE energy consumption is 25% more than Tesla Model X (even though Model X is heavier and bigger), 44% more than Tesla Model S. When compared to another review report of Model 3 its 85% more than Tesla Model 3. Charging at Ionity charger was about 20% below speed what Jaguar did promise. From 11% to 80% in 45 minutes (56 kWh). Jag said the car will do 80% in 40 minutes. In average 72 Kwh loading instead of expected 100 kwh.

Range about 281 km versus the promised 400km. German Autobahn with 130 km/h leads to a range of 232 - 270 km. Just to compare: a test with the 3 on a German Autobahn with 120 km/h is 450 km and 150 km/h speed has given a range of 315 km. I PACE has 90 KWh battery while Model 3 has 75 KWh.

I-PACE and Model X/S comparison video:

By the end of this month (June), production will reach 5,000 per week as per Elon Musk announcement in shareholder's meeting.
Tesla Model 3 is now selling higher than all other premium sedans combined in US. In July, Model 3 holds 52% market share in USA. The list includes other base luxury sedans like BMW 3 series, Mercedes C-class, Audi A4 and Lexus LS.

Some important points to remember:
  • Tesla Model 3 base price is $49,000 (as of now) while all other cars listed above starts at $35,000.
  • Tesla is currently producing 5,000 cars per week and expects to reach 6,000 cars per week by August end.
  • While Model 3 is able to increase its market share, others may not have much impact as the overall market for that class increasing. Also, most of the Model 3 sales are from the orders placed 2 years ago. But this might change once the base Model 3 ($35,000) is available from early 2019.
  • Up selling like iPhone seems to be happening with Model 3. Most popular trade-ins are:
    Toyota Prius
    BMW 3 series
    Honda Accord
    Honda Civic
    Nissan Leaf

https://money.cnn.com/2018/08/01/new...kup/index.html

Still no update on actual delivery timeline for $35,000 model. With higher waiting periods, the demand might wane out.

Also, they burned more cash in last quarter albeit less than investor's expectations.

An automotive company can not sustain long without generating profits unlike aerospace companies so it's high time they make some money.

Tesla Model 3 is the 20th best selling passenger vehicle (14,250) in US for July. The list includes pickup trucks, SUVs, sedans...
http://www.goodcarbadcar.net/2018/08...ehicle-ranked/

Another interesting tidbit from the list is how popular the pick up trucks in US are. Ford consistently selling 70K F-series trucks per month

Think through before you buy a Tesla. Lots of problems with Tesla in Norway. One of their largest markets outside the USA

So this is how Tesla accelerated their production for achieving 5000 Model 3/week.

Never heard a simple bumper of M800 fallen like this

Re: The Tesla Model 3, a $35,000 sedan. EDIT: Specs revealed & deliveries begin

I see so many Model S and most of my colleagues have got their Model 3s. Driving assist features seem to work better for them compared to Audis etc. I think its just the price thats keeping everyone from buying a electric car. My office parking in bay area has about 35 cars parked in the charging area with Volt, Leaf and Teslas lined up.
