Well @-GS-, I agree that some design cues are similar:

The AMC/Rambler Ambassador-990's dipped beam headlamp is stacked vertically above of the main beam headlamp.

Also I see that front and rear windows both have quarter windows.

But aside from similarity in these design cues, we can see that, the Ambassador-990 had a straight slab sided body, while ID:373 has a coke-bottle squeezed waist bang in the middle of the rear door.

The AMC/Rambler Ambassador-990 had a wheelbase 10% longer than that of ID:373.

Finally ID:373 is not an AMC/Rambler product at all.

No. Not a Fairlane. Not a Ford.
I will be a good boy and reveal the answer after 48 hours.
Oops, that's 01:01 am in the morning. Well... Maybe at 6:30 am or so.
But I sincerely wish and hope, one of us Team-BHPians figures it out before that.

ID:373; 1969 Simca Esplanada GTX

ID:373 is a Brazilian made 1969 Simca (Chrysler) Esplanada GTX.

The Simca Esplanada was launched in 1966 at the Salão do Automóvel in São Paulo, Brazil.

In 1968, the Esplanada was joined by the stripped down Regente and the sporty GTX that could reach 160 km/h in 15.3 seconds.

It was powered by a 2,414 cc hemispherical head V8 engine
that breathed through a 2-bbl carb. and put out 130 bhp @ 5200 rpm and 20.0 kgf-m @ 3300 rpm, driving the rear wheels.

The GTX came with front bucket seats, radial tires, four-speed gearbox, sports steering wheel and the body with three black stripes -- a thick black stripe, flanked by two thinner black stripes.

It was Brazil's quickest car in the late sixties. Chico Lameirão raced one in Simca do Brasil's home city of Belo Horizonte, in 1970.

The interior featured fully-reclinable leather bucket seats and fine Jacaranda wood trimmings on instrument cluster, center console and doors.

In late 1966 Chrysler bought out Simca. Later models were called the "Chrysler" Esplanada GTX.

Here is a 1969 ad by Chrysler do Brasil S.A. It is for the Esplanada Regente.

Infelizmente, o Nôvo Regente
lhe dará algumas despesas durante os primeiros dois anos...
"Unfortunately, the New Regente
It will give some expenses during the first two years ... "

Back in 1969, it offered 2 years 36,000 km warranty.

@Cyrus: The adjective, "American" usually connotes the USA, which is one of the North American countries, the others being Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean countries.

This was a car designed and manufactured in Brazil: a South American country by a French company that was taken over by a North American major.

Another confusing example:
Our Chevrolet Aveo is a Korean designed Daewoo Kalos, manufactured in India by the Indian subsidiary of a North American company: General Motors and badged as a Chevrolet. Is it American? No! Is it Korean? No! Then what is it? Indian. Go figure...

Thanks @CYRUS43,
ID:374 is a 1957 Prince Skyline ALSI-1.

A luxury car from the first year of production, it was also produced as a 5-door station wagon. Had a 1,482 cc 60 bhp engine.

Looks are deceptive all right. We all remember the Prince Skylines with the quad headlamps.

But that only happened in 1958.

Quote:
OT: In quite a similar way, the 1957 Chevrolet Sedans had a single pair of headlamps, but 1958 onwards when US legislation permitted quad (pair of double) headlamps, all US cars moved to quad headlamps.

In 1958, a two-door coupe joined the Prince Skyline offerings, too ! The Prince Skyline had the differential bolted to the body, rather than hanging on the suspension. How did they do it? The Japs used universal joints at the driven wheel hubs and at the differential. A solid tube beam held the left and right wheels parallel. This is called a de Dion setup.

Japan's Prince Motor Co. owners of the "Skyline" and "Gloria" brands, merged production of cars into Nissan in 1966, but their brand, "Prince" continues to this day, retaining their own separate identity as Nissan's Japanese network of dealerships.
