Absolutely right! But even though they looked similar, the Matra Rancho and the Disco had really nothing in common. The Rancho preceded the Disco by a decade, and was a good softroader.

Ok, now for ID 808. Identify this quaint roadster:

You got the marque right, my friend, not the model. There was no model called a Skoda Octavia cabrio in the 50s . But I have to give it to you. ID 808 is actually the shortlived 1958 Skoda 450.

A bit of a history lesson. Skoda's first "peoples' car" came in 1955 with the launch of the very basic Skoda 440. Equipped with a 1089 cc engine putting out 39 bhp, the car had very pocket-friendly features like an interchangeable front and rear windscreen, and transverse leaf suspension front and rear and a swing axle at the rear.

This was followed by the 445 saloon in 1957, which was the 440 with a 1200cc, 45 bhp engine. It was this car that got a cabriolet sister - to bow down to lucrative export demands - the 450 cabriolet. The pic I've put up is this very car.

In 1959, Skoda re-introduced the same body design with a coil-spring front end and progressive leaf rear end. This was called the Octavia (for the saloon) and the Felicia (for the cabriolet). What you meant was probably the Felicia cabriolet.

I still have to give it to you. Not only did the 450 and the Felicia look alike, only a thousand 450s were made against about 75K Felicias.

Wow that was quick agspins !
Though Citroen made some of the most beautiful cars on the planet, they did make some quirky ones as well
