From the outline it looks a quite similar to the existing model in terms of profile !

The interiors aren't very different either

I hope & pray that they don't mess with the wonderful steering & retain the sportiness of the current model !

Please, please BMW, don't go the electric steering way

Ravveendrra,

Cars are Bimmers, bikes are beamers : simple. It is to make a clear cut distinction between the two. Why do you find it odious?

I read somewhere that the 3 will have downsized engines; if that implies no inline six gasolines and oil burners as is rumoured, then it is a direct attack on the spirit of the Bimmer. Where will it leave Bimmerheads who swear by the smoothness of the inline sixes?

Also that (horror of horrors) the 3 will have electric steering rather than hydraulic.

I have an ominous feeling that for India, to broaden its appeal to people with moolah but with little idea or sensitivity to the Bimmers' traditional strengths, the new 3 will have only four cylinder engines and with electric steering

We live in difficult times. The world order is changing.

Regards, drive safe

Re: Spied:2012 BMW 3 series sedan

AutoExpress magazine apparently has published more details/ renderings of 2012 3-series and 2014 M3. Here is the link. Not a huge departure from current design, I think.

Re: Spied:2012 BMW 3 series sedan

Nice Very Nice. Interiors are now more in line with the latest generations of the B's

That is one heavily cladded car. Quite often, the test cars are beefed up in places to further conceal the outline. For instance, the rear light may just be a temp bolt on.

I love the aggressive design! But hate the fact that differentiating between the 3, 5 and 7 has become much more difficult

Audi's design philosophy has been something like this and BMW seems to have followed suit.

Re: Spied:2012 BMW 3 series sedan

The hood looks aggressive, almost Jaguar-ish. Definitely bigger than the current 3.

2012?? I doubt it. Looks like the existing 3-series with a bodykit. Also, 3-series are always understated, and the next one in 2012 will probably be no exception. This thing has too much verve and aggression in the styling to be a stock 3.

Re: Spied:2012 BMW 3 series sedan

Well, actually the three series has to reflect the new design elemts which is visible in the 5 and the 7

As can be seen from the latest renderings, the car has the new wider jelly bean grills, and the sharp headlight design. The 3 is one of the hottest and fastest selling BMWs, so they will definitely not cut down on enhancing the appeal

I like the new steering as well. Seems more beefy

Whew, good riddance to Bangle I say! If this is an accurate representation of the new 3, I LOVE IT! Very aggressive, very in-your-face, yet a clean design that will age well....just like the new 5 & the 7. I have a feeling that BMW will tone it down - even if a li'l bit - on the production version though.

P.S. Did I mention how glad I am that BMW's with quirky proportions & awkward lines are a thing of the past?

P.P.S. BMW's going clean, Audi has always been clean. Mercedes is the only one left with el-weirdo designs!

According to Auto Express, this is how the new 3 and M3 will look like. M3 looks wicked!!

Re: Spied:2012 BMW 3 series sedan

Aww man. The M3 is fine, but what happened to the 3

Just when we were feeling good about the red renderings, this comes out. It looks kinda stub nosed and too many weaves at the bottom half of the bumper.
