Re: Interesting International Websites and Links On Automobiles!

The Hummer (20 year old) owned by Rapper Tupac Shakur who was brutally shot in 1996, with 10,100 miles on its speedo, fetched $ 337,114 at an auction. This is 700 % more in comparison to the price a Hummer of that date would command.

A woman in China has crashed into a Jaguar XF with her Land Rover Evoque to leave a parking space, where she was blocked. This happened in Xiamen, a city in Southeastern China.

Re: Interesting International Websites and Links On Automobiles!

Just check this one out. It is the MOTHER OF ALL RECALLS

Feminist groups in Argentina took to the streets to protest the instruction issued in the owners handbook of Fiat cars by the company in Argentina since early last year. It came into light just recently (means very few owners read handbooks) and said that:-

"If a lady's skirt is too short, we recommend that she travel in the back seat to keep our concentration."
"If the skirt is not that short but you tend to have a wandering hand, she should also travel behind."

Another section said that any woman who aspires to become a co-pilot "must at least have nice legs".

Needless to say, the issuance of this owner's handbook had to be stopped yesterday by Fiat.

Re: Interesting International Websites and Links On Automobiles!

Here is a totally lopsided comparo road test of a LaFerrari (3000lbs weight and 950 bhp output) with a KTM 1290 Super Duke that has an output of one fifth of the 950 horses of the Ferrari and weighs a fraction of the 3000 lbs. The KTM endured and held up the LaFerrari for quite longer than expected.

Re: Interesting International Websites and Links On Automobiles!

Audi is expected to introduce a vehicle-to-object (V2X) communication technology for its cars this fall. The V2X enables cars to communicate with surrounding infrastructure and is a step ahead towards the implementation of fully autonomous cars.

There will be a feature that communicates with traffic lights and interpretes when these will switch from red to green. A countdown is displayed in the instrument cluster or in the head-up display.

The site has been updated mentioning that Land cruiser 70 production will not be stopped.

Update: Toyota has confirmed production of the Land Cruiser 70 won’t be ending anytime soon. Thanks to updates being introduced this year, namely in the area of safety and emissions, the go-anywhere range of SUVs and pickups will soldier on for the foreseeable future. An earlier version of this article featured outdated comments made by a Toyota exec a few years ago.

From Germany : The last point made here viz. Wintereifen, involves changing over to winter tyres before the onset of winter or else in default, facing penalties.

Re: Interesting International Websites and Links On Automobiles!

Hamburg becomes the first German city to ban older diesels on some of its main thoroughfares. The authorities were given the licence to do so by a Federal Court.

In fact, Germany has been the focal point for everything about the "DIESEL ENGINE" right from its invention by German Rudolf Diesel, to its later use much popularised in private cars. Lately, the cheat software developed by a major German automaker and the emission scandals by other major German automakers have kept Germany in the "diesel" limelight.

And now come the partial ban on diesels by Hamburg:

Re: Interesting International Websites and Links On Automobiles!

Here is another set of allegations against Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) by General Motors (GM), wherein the latter has charged that United Auto Workers Union office bearers were bribed by FCA executives to secure wage agreements with the labour force, to disadvantage GM. The trial court (District Court) was not much favourable to GM's assertions but GM stood its ground, now moving to the Appeals Court.

At a time when FCA corners Mahindra with some ancient and fossilised design infringement for it's Roxor fearing a backlash in FCA UV sales, the tactics FCA adapts to corner GM if true (only time will tell), speaks volumes about their stealth manouveres.

Quote:
GM sued Fiat Chrysler last year, accusing the Italian-American company's executives of bribing United Auto Workers union officials to secure labor agreements that put GM at a disadvantage. Fiat Chrysler is under investigation by the U.S. Justice Department as part of a wide-ranging probe of UAW corruption.

GM's accusations came as Fiat Chrysler and French automaker Peugeot SA were in the early stages of preparing for a merger. Fiat Chrysler has said the suit was aimed at disrupting that deal. GM has said the suit has nothing to do with the merger.
Quote:
In its motion, GM asked the appeals court to throw out Borman's order and reassign the case to a different district court judge. It called Borman's order "unprecedented" and "a profound abuse" of judicial power.

Re: Interesting International Websites and Links On Automobiles!

An update in the now GM versus FCA case in the Appeals Court wherein it has stayed the lower trial court order that required GM and Fiat Chrysler to resolve the racketeering suit. The lower court had been oblivious of GM's allegations which were of a serious nature as briefly described in post # 164 of mine here.

Quote:
On Friday, GM asked a U.S. appeals court to allow it to continue pursuing its civil racketeering lawsuit against FCA, rejecting U.S. District Court Judge Paul Borman's belittling of the complaint. The No. 1 U.S. automaker called Borman's order "unprecedented" and "a profound abuse" of judicial power.

GM's appeal came less than a week after Borman called its lawsuit a "waste of time and resources" at a time when both automakers should be focused on surviving the coronavirus pandemic.

Borman ordered GM Chief Executive Mary Barra and FCA CEO Mike Manley to meet by July 1 to negotiate a resolution, and later amended his order to allow other officials in their place. On Monday, Borman said in an order that the July 1 call would simply entail the executives answering "yes" or "no" on whether the case had been resolved.

GM sued FCA last year, accusing the Italian-American company's executives of bribing United Auto Workers union officials to secure labor agreements that put GM at a disadvantage. FCA is under investigation by the U.S. Justice Department as part of a wide-ranging probe of UAW corruption.
