Re: F1 2011 - British GP- Santander

Great to see Ferrari closing the gap on Red-Bulls. The Bulls don't have the same advantage in the race and it should be interesting to see if Ferrari go for the move on track or wait for pit-stops to minimise the risk in overtaking and undercut the Bulls.

And I would be immensely happy if Alonso is able to lap any of the McLarens. Would be the perfect revenge for Barcelona

Re: F1 2011 - British GP- Santander

Ferrari have definitely gained a bit after the rule changes. This is the closest they have been to Redbull in qualifying in terms of pace. And with the fast starting Ferraris close by, the Redbull are in for a real fight. Expect Hamilton to entertain from 10th on the grid. And Paul Di Resta...great job in qualifying, can we expect a top-10 finish?

McLaren & Renault have been hit by the whole blown exhaust issue. But now, the FIA apparently may consider a roll back of the blown exhaust ban:

FIA willing to scrap exhaust clampdown | FIA | Formula 1 news, live F1 | ESPN F1

This is confusing to the F1 fan and a blow for some teams, but it makes the racing just a little unpredictable, which is good. Should be an exciting race today.

The Brits are doing great with their steeds! Two good moves till now: Button's against Massa and Lewis's against Alonso (though the first one had more drama)

I CANNOT believe what just happened to Button. Sloppy, really sloppy!

All between Alonso and Vettel now; and maybe Webber.

Re: F1 2011 - British GP- Santander

Finally RedBulls pitstop mistake costed them a 1-2 finish and Alonso is going great guns to finish on top of the podium.

Surprisingly , shocking though Mclarens screwed up their strategy. Sloppy pit stop and Fuel issues.

Cant believe how Force India could do such blunder.

Race has been rocking so far, waiting for the last lap

What a last lap, Massa and Hamilton, what a grit Hamilton showed..

Nice to see Roseberg and Schumi finish in top 10.

Alonso having his day, but clipping RedBull.. i dont think yet.

Holy moses!

Man, Hamilton held it thru' beautifully.

Whoa! Great race and enjoyed it with coke & corns
The final lap can't be better than this. Beautiful rivalry between team-mates (unlile past Lewis/Fernando pair). Last lap tussle between Massa and Lewis was great.
Blunders at pit stops galored - for RBR & Force India and they paid the price.

And congrats Alonso

What a race!
Everyone in top 4 had their moments, but Alonso was in a different race once got the jump over Vettel in pits.
Couple of blunders in pits from McLaren and Force India cost them dearly.
Lewis for a change drove a very mature race. Would have been nice to see him on podium.

Team orders are legal for quite sometime now. There was more to lose if Webber had tried take Vettel.

Re: F1 2011 - British GP- Santander

Great racing at Silverstone! Inspired drives from Alonso, Hamilton, Schumacher - despite all that was going on in his race. Plenty of mistakes in the pit too - McLaren, Redbull, Force India..rather unusual sight in F1 these days.

Ferrari played all their cards right and a well deserved first race win for Alonso. He kept his calm even when Hamilton overtook him on his first set of dry tyres. Both drivers put in awesome drives, but the difference between Alonso and Hamilton is that Alonso waits for the right moments to attack while Hamilton is pure flat out from the word go.

One feels that Massa could have finished even higher if he had stopped a couple of laps earlier for his last set of tyres, as he lost some time running around on old tyres.

As for Di Resta, he was doing alright till the pit stop incident. Decent drive from Heidfeld too, finishing 8th after qualifying 16th, aided by other driver's mishaps.

Re: F1 2011 - British GP- Santander

Alonsoooooooooo What a race from him and what a pace from Ferrari! Frightening. Almost 1.5 secs faster in the middle sector than any of the other cars. A great win for the perseverance and the hard work shown by the team and Alonso.

Massa seems to go into sleep mode if he is not in the mix. He did 1:37 laps before knowing Lewis' problem and lowered it to 1:35 when he was aware of it. Why on earth isn't he pushing like mad when the car is obviously faster than the rivals?

McLaren's newest strategy to go faster is to put very less fuel and show they got pace With a wet race and almost half the race run on pace slower than normal, how did they manage to get the fuel calculations wrong?

Vettel and Webber providing more food for debate along with Messrs.Horner. Horner should stop slating other teams now since RB themselves have shown they are no saints too.

If Webber is still in the WDC race acc. to Horner, why was he not allowed to race Vettel? And if he wanted to avoid a collision, why not ask Vettel to slow down and leave Webber ahead without putting them into risk?

If Webber still stays in that team next season, he will be bringing drinks to Vettel and holding an umbrella before the races for him.

Ferrari on the rise and the sun is shining brightly at the end of British GP. A sign of things to come? I hope so!

Finally some words for Schumi! A very solid drive after the problems early in the race. And a courageous move to go to slicks when everyone else were happy riding on the inters.

10 sec stop and go penalty for the collision was over-kill and I wonder why Di-Resta didn't have one for his collision with Buemi. He spoiled Buemi's race with that dive into his left.

Consistency is the need of the hour!

Reason for 10 sec stop is the new pit lane format. Without that it's more of a shortcut than a penalty.

Re: F1 2011 - British GP- Santander

"You need to maintain the gap" - was that the first team order of the season?

Anyway, this was the most eventful last lap in recent times! Good to see Massa back in the fighting mode.

Re: F1 2011 - British GP- Santander

Alonso - been a long time coming but what a circuit to open his account on!! Beauthiful drive - and thanks to the sloppiness from the RB team as well!!

Massa's days at Ferrari are numbered I hope. What a mess he made of the last lap.

Dare we hope for a comeback from Ferrari?? The next few races would be key...

Schumy seems to have a habit of not keeping bits of his front wing on for long. Seems like he thinks the replacement wing gives better performance!! Gritty drive though.

Too bad about the rain though - if it were dry I daresay we would have seen much more overtaking moves - the drying track made for a narrow racing line.

And team orders at RB no doubt!!

Drive on,
Shibu.

What do you mean by inters (I don't know what it is!)?
Tires with treads (for wet surface)?
