R.I.P Marco Simoncelli

Today, Moto GP rider Marco Simoncelli was involved in a fatal crash at the Malaysian GP at Sepang, involving Colin Edwards and Valentino Rossi.

In fourth position during lap two Simoncelli's bike veered across the track and straight into the path of Edwards and Rossi. Edwards also fell off but was unhurt, but Simoncelli lay still on the track after the crash, his helmet having come off during the incident. The race was immediately red-flagged. He was taken by ambulance to the circuit's medical centre, but at 16:56 local time it was announced he had died from his injuries.

OMG! thats very sad! It always very sad to see a life lost on a track. Goes on to show how risky it is even with all the safety precautions and safety gears. RIP

Re: R.I.P Marco Simoncelli

Really unfortunate. There is a video of it on youtube but I don't think it would be appropriate to put it here. I was flipping to channels when I saw moto gp being broadcasted on star sports. This incident happened within minutes of me putting the channel. Franking, no one could have survived that impact. Wrong place at the wrong time.

PS: the commentators did mention the Colin Edwards had dislocated his shoulder.

PS2: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/oth...oGP-crash.html

A more detailed account is available here.

If you look closely at the pictures and the video [There is one on youtube which shows the accident frame by frame.] you'll notice that although he was falling off the bike, the tyres still had grip which is why instead of sliding off to the left out of the track, it brought him straight into the path of Colin Edwards, who frankly had nowhere to go. There is a picture in the above article which shows the moment of tragedy from the front. That picture will tell you clearly what exactly "went over him".

Shocking....Such a great talent... Followed his 2008 250cc campaign win, competed fiercely with Alvaro batista and came on top... I thought he will be next Rossi when he moved up to Moto GP... RIP Marco... We love You..

Re: R.I.P Marco Simoncelli

I am not sure what would be going through the minds of Valentino Rossi and Edwards. They must be gutted.

Re: R.I.P Marco Simoncelli

That was a bad bad crash. It was shocking to see his motionless body lying on the track. I don't know how his helmet came off.

May god give strength to the Simoncelli family, his friends, Edwards and Rossi. A very bad week for motor sports.

R.I.P Marco, you'll be missed.

Tears in our eyes as me and my son watched this unfold...

I saw Super Sic live in Estoril in 2009 when he won and wheelied across the start-finish...very very SAD indeed...

reminds me of the black sunday of 1994...

RIP Marco..

Krishna

Re: R.I.P Marco Simoncelli

The was a bad bad crash. Edward and rossi would be going through hell. The slow motion video shows he was hit first on the back and then full force on the back of his neck. The worst , his helmet came off. RIP Kid , you will be missed. No. 58 lives on.

Re: R.I.P Marco Simoncelli

I went to the race today. In 125CC there were 4 accidents and all are safe and in MOTOGP2 there were 4 accidents again and this race was also red flagged and then MOTOGP started and in second lap this accident occurred. Not a very good day. RIP SIC. this was mt first MotoGP and not a good experience, the spectators do not know what is happening and all the water bottles were thrown on the track for race not being restarted.
