Re: The 2016 MotoGP Thread

Nicky Hayden will be standing in for Pedrosa at Philip Island. Motocross rider Chad Reed shared this interesting pic..

Re: The 2016 MotoGP Thread

3 races to go and 77 points behind, the rest of the world stands. The gap is too big for few to come over and congratulate the kid and I am loving this.

It should be all out in the Philip Island race. Lets see who wins the rest.

Re: The 2016 MotoGP Thread

With the rider championship done and dusted for 2016, the constructors title is still tight.

The 2016 MotoGP Thread-motogp.jpg

On Constructors points Honda leads by 28 points over Yamaha with 75 points to play for Yamaha should try and take away this one from Honda.

Team points, Moviestar Yamaha trail by 51 Points. With 150 points to play for it would be interesting.

PS: not to mention the runners up spot fight between the 2 Moviestar Yahama riders.

This should be interesting. Yamaha have an edge here that both the riders are capable of podiums when they dont fall. But this will require both of them to not pull out howitzers on the track for 3 races.

Slightly OT:

For those looking for high-quality MotoGP wallpapers, this seems like a good place to start.

Also, Pedrosa is being replaced by Nicky Hayden for Philip Island.

Re: The 2016 MotoGP Thread

Rossi gets a penalty in FP1 for using the Supersoft tyres for more than the prescribed 10 laps. FP1 times are deleted for this. Unless its dry tomorrow, Rossi will have to be part of Q1, qualify and then Q2.

Wonder how Yamaha missed this.

Re: The 2016 MotoGP Thread

What a crazy qualifier!

CC35, LR99, MV25, VR46 had to go through Q2 and only first two making it to Q1 in mixed conditions.

World Champion Marquez made the right choice to go on slicks right at the beginning of Q1 and at the end he was miles ahead of others by a comfortable 8 tenths.

It should be an exciting race tomorrow with fully mixed up grid and unpredictable weather conditions.

Well deserved victory to Crutchlow. Superb ride from Rossi from 15th on Grid to 2nd. It's a shame he couldn't qualify for QP2 yesterday. The controversial decision of race direction to cancel all his lap times from FP1 is strange. Even Lorenzo felt that all the laps shouldn't have been cancelled. Had Rossi been in QP2 and started from any of front three rows, he could have fought for victory. A weekend to forget for Lorenzo. He was just too slow in wet and couldn't find rhythm in dry. First DNF for Marquez this season but this was sort of expected. With championship wrapped up, he threw caution to wind. Yamaha hasn't won in 9 races now and this is the biggest dry patch for them since 2003! Hope their 2017 bike is sorted out.

Notice how the Suzukis have improved over the season. Excellent corner speeds and holding their own against the Ducati!

I guess Honda riders won starting 12 races in 2014, with Marquez taking first 10 of the season.

Re: The 2016 MotoGP Thread

This is a very interesting read about how MotoGP riding styles have evolved.

http://www.redbull.com/us/en/motorsp...p-riding-style

A first-time MotoGP watcher was asking me why riders dangle their legs and I didn't know!

Here's a read about that as well:

http://www.redbull.com/us/en/motorsp...ogp-leg-dangle

And a link to the Jerez incident they are referring to:

Re: The 2016 MotoGP Thread

2016 MotoGP season has concluded with the last race at Valencia.

Rider Classification

The 2016 MotoGP Thread-wc.jpg

How the top 4 performed

Marc Marquez : Consistency has won him the championship. Except for one DNF which happened after he won the title, he scored points in every race, however difficult the conditions were.
Valentino Rossi : 4 DNF's cost him dearly in the fight for top spot. Qualifying is still a weak point for him and due to this he had to fight through the pack in most of the races.
Jorge Lorenzo : Started off the season with consistently good results, but lost the title battle when his inability to ride in wet/mixed race conditions was exposed. But, he is still the best and smoothest rider in the current lineup under dry and ideal conditions.
Maverick Viñales : He showed to the world, why he was termed the hottest property in motogp lineup and why Yamaha were so keen on getting him on board.

There were other notable performers as well, while the season saw record 9 different race winners. Cal Crutchlow, who had a very strong second half of the season by securing 2 wins and 2 runner-up positions. Andrea Dovizioso, who could have fared far better if not for his bad luck this season. And then the one race wonders Dani Pedrosa, Andrea Iannone, Jack Miller, who were good only on that day of the race.

Constructor/Team Classification
Honda secured the constructors title while team title went to Yamaha.
The 2016 MotoGP Thread-const.jpg

Finally, 2017 MotoGP provisional entry list
The 2016 MotoGP Thread-2017.jpg

Next year it should be more interesting with the shuffling of riders between the teams and new teams/riders graduating from moto2
