He forgot how quick and dominant Mercedes were in 2014 when their domination began. The 'party mode' engine setting everyone used to dread as it used to make them many tenths faster during qualifying.

Wonder what HAM expects to gain from this statement. Does he want pity from his fans or just seeking everyone's attention as he is not winning races anymore?

Thanks to the party mode, 1st race of 2015 in Australia, Lewis out qualified the next non Merc powered car by 1.4 seconds!

For the 1st time since 2014 he's feeling the degree of helplessness (or close to it)..that all the others felt for the past 9 years

In those days Mercedes, Ferrari and Red Bull could throw money to make car faster. Now they can't due to cost cap. This is the frustration for big teams like Ferrari and Mercedes who are a second behind Red Bull.

Wrong, there was engine token system from 2014 - 2017. Further the engine designs were
Frozen preventing rivals to copy mercedes.
Mercedes advantage was locked for atleast 3 years.

There are otherways to make a car faster then just engine.

Mercedes tune down their engines to hide the advantage to avoid any scrutiny. Such an advantage cant be matched with aero alone.

Alphatauri is much slower with the same honda engine. Now mercedes is a lot slower then Aston Martin despite using the same engine. So aero definitely makes a big difference.

Also I have no idea why you brought up the topic of engine.

I cannot remember the last team to say anything like this for a long time.
Does anyone here recall ?

James Key was highly rated and yet this year seems a repeat of last season's disappointment. I can understand a one off, but he will be on thin ice I am sure.
James Key parts ways with McLaren as team announce technical restructure
https://www.formula1.com/en/latest/a...XSvnwNQZ1.html

The new structure should be the way forward.
I feel modern F1 cars are too mind bogglingly complex for a single Technical Director structure.

In the lead up to their dominant 2014 & beyond years, Mercedes had 3 technical directors working under Ross Brawn.

Contrasting stints when a Paddy Lowe 'downgraded' from Mercedes to Williams and was a disaster, and James 'upgraded' from Toro Rosso and just couldnt handle it.

Imola Grand Prix has been cancelled due to the disruption caused by persistent heavy rain in northern Italy.

Re: Formula 1 : 2023 Season

This was the right thing to do, considering it would have been very inappropriate to host a GP in the midst of this catastrophe. Though still a bummer for F1 fans as Imola always produces a good race.

Well, time to use the other features of F1TV like the archives and documentaries. Watched 'How the 2007 Season was won' last weekend (even though I still remember each race as if it was yesterday!), nicely summarized in 50 min. Will go for 'How the 2012 Season was won' next.

Re: Formula 1 : 2023 Season

Since this weekend's race is cancelled, F1's YouTube channel has posted full replays of the 2021 and 2005 San Marino races. The 2005 one has the classic Schumacher - Alonso duel!

Re: Formula 1 : 2023 Season

What an immensely engrossing qualifying session it was today, in Monaco! Was a bit of a shame that Checo, the 2022 winner, exited the qualifying in Q1 itself, due to a moment's distraction. He took too much pace into Turn 1, and probably got a bit fixated onto the Williams of Albon which was exiting from the pits, and he went into the wall rather hard. The knock was so bad that Red Bull might decide to swap out his gearbox, to prevent a situation like the one that put Leclerc out of action in 2021.

Since the field was so tightly packed, drivers were pushing well beyond what might be considered an acceptable level of risk. Ocon clattered hard into the wall at Turn 7 enroute his P4, and Max made contact with the wall not once, but twice, on his final lap. The action after lights out tomorrow will be extra special, with Alonso giving his all to try and get the jump onto Verstappen.

Daniel Ricciardo will replace Nyck de Vries at AlphaTauri for the rest of the 2023 season as per F1 Twitter handle.

Daniel Ricciardo makes a shocking comeback to the Grid for 2023.

Replaces De Vries at Alpha Tauri.

I feel this is a knee jerk reaction. De Vries was picking up. Agree he was not good at start of season, but removing him so soon is bad.

Even Yuki was not good during the first season and I remember they warned him as well. But replacing just after 11 races is too soon for a rookie.
