Re: Formula 1 : 2023 Season

Charles Leclerc gets extension by Ferrari with record salary!

Quote:
Charles Leclerc has reportedly renewed his contract with Scuderia Ferrari. In detail, it is a firm 2025-2026 agreement and 2027-2028-2029 in the form of options. For some time, the entourage of the Monegasque driver has been probing the paddock. Discussions with Mercedes, Aston Martin, Alpine and even Red Bull have taken place. The German manufacturer's option was the most serious, in case of replacing Lewis Hamilton, Toto Wolff believes that Charles Leclerc is a good candidate to face Max Verstappen in the future.
A 5-year extension to 185 million euros overall
Quote:
A 5-year contract extension would have been agreed between the two parties. On the Monegasque side, the ambition is to see the market coming by 2026. On the Scuderia's side, securing its spearhead and a motivation to keep it in the long term. The second part of the contract in the form of an option will allow, in the form of performance clauses, to release Charles Leclerc from his Ferrari contract each season. That leaves the remuneration. Initial rumors indicate a total contract of more than 185 million euros ($220 million) and a remuneration that could reach 50 million euros in the last year.

Just to reinforce the point if it wasn't clear, the 185 Mn figure is cumulative for all five years combined. Per year would be around 45Mn euros (~$55+Mn), with just enough to go ahead of Max's reputed salary which is believed to be $55Mn (highest till then).

More than the money, it would have been good for Leclarc if they had introduced car reliability and team strategy clauses too.

I think the row item 'Hardship & Disappointment Allowance' on his salary slip will be quite significant

Fun Fact - DHL used trucks run on biofuel - hydrotreated vegetable oil - to transport freight between races on the European leg of the 2023 F1 season, delivering an 83% reduction of logistics carbon emissions on average.

Realistic fact - the usage of the biofuel alone didn't cause the 83% drop in carbon emissions but a lot of other factors (contrary to what the image seems to indicate).

- exploring multimodal transport options such as overland and ocean freight
- redesigning freight containers to fit more efficiently into Boeing 777 instead of the traditional 747s (this alone accounts for 18% of reductions)
- using GPS technology to monitor fuel consumption and optimise routes in between F1 races
- transitioning to a greater reliance on remote broadcast operations

Re: Formula 1 : 2023 Season

Just watched the Sprint Quali in Qatar.

Really feel for Lance. After all these years in F1 suddenly in 2023, Perez (after being hailed as the tire whisperer) and him have become bad drivers!?
It is incredibly tough to have Max/Fernando as a team mate. Their speed and unbelievable consistency is bound to humble you.

Both drivers are much better than their recent performances, hope they find a way out of this slump.

Look at Albon now flourishing at Williams, being the 'No 1 driver'.
But put him back in a Red Bull and it will crush him again. Some drivers just cant handle being beaten by margins that Max and Fernando dish out. Stark reality biting must be a horrid feeling, a reminder perhaps of how far you are from being World champion material, a dream you have fostered all your racing life.

Funny how the media are tearing into Lance, but the world seems to have forgotten, Fernando did the same thing to even Kimi at Ferrari! Destroyed a World champion over a season.
Kimi being Kimi, he didnt lose his head.

Rosberg needed a mental coach to beat Lewis, Perez is seeing one this season. They need all the help they can.
Hope Lance sorts his head out.

I think Quali on Friday determines the grid slots for Sunday's race.

The Sprint Shootout and Sprint Race will both happen on Saturday.

Lance just needs to leave. He has been around for a little under 10 years. He had a great junior Formula career but he can't hold his own in Formula 1. Time to switch to his (actual) favourite sport - Tennis.

Re: Formula 1 : 2023 Season

Red Bull 'lands' in Austin with a special livery.

The RB19 will have red, white and blue stripes along the chassis and wings
The design by Argentinian Franco Cavallone was chosen from more than 2,000 proposals.

Formula 1 : 2023 Season-screenshot-20231019-200717.png

And Red Bull team boss Christian Horner was also very pleased with the design. "It's exciting to see a fan-driven competition come to life and coincide with the growth of Formula 1 in the United States," he said. "I think Franco has done an excellent job and the car looks amazing," he added. For him, the most special thing is that it was "designed by our fans", and he hopes that the 1-2 win in Miami can be repeated.

Re: Formula 1 : 2023 Season

I was reading a news yesterday that Max got some threats online and he will get extra security during the Mexican GP. These types of things should never be done in any sport. It is perfectly fine to support someone in a sport but it is not acceptable to give threats to someone whom you are not supporting or you don't like.

Threatening someone is not at all a new thing. This happens not just in sports but all the other industries too. And due to Internet and social media, it has further increased as most of them can be messaged. Not that they are reading but just one bad message can ruin one’s day. As for Max, I think after winning his 1st WC he has calmed down a lot and is quite mature. But he is no saint and I always admire Lewis for his calmness and his radio messages after the race. He really feels thankful.

PS- Not a Lewis fan at all but credits due where it deserves.

Re: Formula 1 : 2023 Season

Mercedes and F1 angered by FIA compliance probe.

Mercedes and Formula One reacted angrily after the governing FIA said it was investigating media speculation a team boss received confidential information from an employee of the commercial rights holder.

The team principal was not named but media reports mentioned Mercedes’ Toto Wolff and wife Susie, who leads the all-female F1 Academy and reports to Formula One chief executive Stefano Domenicali.

Quote:
The FIA is aware of media speculation centred on the allegation of information of a confidential nature being passed to an F1 team principal from a member of FOM personnel,” the governing body said in a statement.

The FIA compliance department is looking into the matter.
