The comparison with Tsunoda isn't an apples to apples comparison though. Yuki made his debut at 20 and was very green behind the years, with flashes of brilliance. De Vries was 28, with a whole boatload of experience in other formats, and even had simulator experience at Mercedes, and had scored points at Williams last year. Redbull and Marko pretty much expected him to immediately be faster than Tsunoda and take on the leader role at AT. Yuki has been impressive but will improve even more if he has a better teammate, but the supposedly better teammate being consistently slower was not part of the plan. With each passing race, it was clear that Nyck was not going to be the leader Redbull wanted. To have him remain for the rest of the season and have him equal Tsunoda by then wouldn't give AT/Redbull anything to be happy about, so the writing was basically on the wall.

Re: Formula 1 : 2023 Season

Red Bull sacking another driver mid season isnt really a surprise.

This seems more of a move to keep Perez in check from his WDC ambitions, and to remind him, that is focus should be solely on P2. He cant be going for broke to get Pole and missing Q3 this frequently.

Im more curious to see what happens in 2024! Dont see Danny Ric spending another season in this lemon of a Torro Rosso.

What WDC ambition? Let the guy reach Q2 first.

Re: Formula 1 : 2023 Season

Danny and Perez are statistically more or less equal, even though Perez has lesser years in RBR. I've always rooted for Perez, but only up until Abu Dhabi 2021

However, I do not expect any magic from Ricciardo. Maximum IMO he's capable of being is near the top of the midfield, if lucky.

In a recent interview, Danny stated that he was open to driving the AT in 2024 if it would be a stepping stone to get back to the RBR team.

So, the plan now must be to pit him vs Tsunoda in the same car and observe which one is better to partner Max in 2025, if Perez does not come up the curve further.

He was a lot closer to Max then Perez is.

In their 3rd and final season together Max had clearly edged DR. In some races the Gap was as big as Perez'.

With a teammate like Max, it'll indeed be super hard to stay in touch on the points front, but Perez is way more inconsistent than Ricciardo ever was, in the RedBull. I suspect that Perez would likely perform far more predictably and consistently if he makes peace with the fact that he's not anywhere in the same league as Max, and that he learns to satisfy himself with decent performances that help seal up more 1-2 finishes for RedBull. Right now, Max is so far ahead that he's pretty much sewn up the constructor's championship too, with just his own points, but had the field been closer, Perez's inconsistent results could have cost RedBull dearly.

Check out this cool comparison of drivers by Peter Windsor. Not everyone's cup of tea.

Which ones?
Gap was only wide on the wet races if I remember correctly.

Russia 2018 comes to mind.

Iirc DR was closer in quali but in straight races ( w/o mechanical issues or out of position ) Max always had the edge.

Re: Formula 1 : 2023 Season

This season is turning out to be boring in a way. Why don't they just give away the first position to Verstappen in advance and ask him to not race. That way we'll see a good race among the top 5 teams - Red Bull (Perez), Mclaren, Ferrari, Aston Martin and Mercedes.

I think that's what is happening in a way. They are barely showing Verstappen during the race. It is always the other duels

McLaren has made F1 interesting again with both Norris and Piastri delivering good results and Mercedes making some improvements with HAM getting the odd pole (only to become P4 by T2...sigh). Ferrari are busy ruining their own races (without any help required from other teams).

Other than that, apart from the major changes in 2024 regarding removal of tyre blankets (which looks like it is going to be rejected by the teams), which could have really made a difference, F1 can probably look at options like BoP similar to the WEC to curb dominance of a single teams.
