In a totally unbiased view, three cheers to the Pakistani! He's beaten some well known guys in that list - Alex Yoong, Jos "The Boss" Verstappen. Well done Adam Khan!

A1 was supposed to give a lot more overtaking. I was quite surprised at how long it took Piquet Jr to overtake the Aussie Power and after he overtook he opened up a 10sec lead! That tells me that he was bottled behind Power unable to overtake!!! so much for the clean air easier to overtake funda!! maybe there is something more to it that Im missing.

Karun did quite well in the first sprint race where he came in 15th after starting 19th on the grid. one of 4-5 who made up places at the start. but unfortunately the car didnt get off the line for the featured race. but then he had elite company in the french team who were 2nd on the grid! But I think Brazil is going to be the team to watch!!!

overall, I think A1 GP is a well executed affair in terms of positioning and marketing. people are honest about it being a business venture first and everything else later. The media hype around the event here was quite a BIT. everyone was talking about A1 GP, even non motor sports fans. all the free papers had huge pullouts on A1.
lets see how they handle the second race at Eurospeed way in Germany. A1 is supposed to Complement F1 and take motorsports to new territories. lets also see how bernie sits through all this.

I had gone to watch the A1 GP at Brands Hatch yesterday. It was the first time I was seeing a race live. In terms of understanding whats going on, the TV is much better but then the sound and atmosphere of a live race is something else. so i put myself in a place near the track with a huge screen behind me and a pint of lager in my right hand. so it was the best of both worlds.

what really struck me during the whole thing was the traction control. i have heard steve slater and chris goodwin go on and on about the crackling of the traction control but could never really make it out on TV. at the track however, you cant mistake TC. its like firecracker going off!!!!

I second that....A1 car does not have TC, maybe the sound Rahul heard was the powerboost (not too sure if it even makes a sound )

If he heard it at the corners it was probably the exhaust note of the engine deccelerating???...you get it from F1 cars too, if you're sitting near the corners (preferably before, since you cant hear the 'backfire' when they're accelerating out of corners)

Spot on. They sound very rough when hard on the brakes. A decade ago they also used to spit out flames through the tailpipe but that has been kept under control.

Interesting, it never registered in my head that they didnt have TC.

like steeroid has said, it must have been the exhaust note n deccelaration.

It sounded sort of like valves opening and the engine misfiring several times in a row, it went <phut phut phut phut phut>. Sort of like those long lasting firecrackers where you have a few hundred crackers one after the other (malapadakkam in malayalam), but only this one had only about half a dozen.

which is why I assumed it was TC.

now i have to watch silverstone next year to figure out what TC sounds like!!!

How does TC work anyway? Isnt it something like opening valves halfway through the firing cycle whenever there is a loss of traction between the tyre and the road?

Check out those HUGE ex-F1 slicks at the back. That's all the TC you need. I've heard that there is so much rear end grip, that drivers literally have to throw the car into the corner to overcome understeer.

Hey guys. Anybody watch the second race in Germany? Looks like interest is waned off already.

France takes the top spot in both and Neel Jani on the podium for one of the races.

KC still floundering in the back.

You are right , after watching the F1 race and the brillient racing and overtaking , the A1 race looked like kid stuff and even boring.
Lets hope KC gets his thing right , and hopefully we have some better result in the next race .
