Gannu Bhai, I did Manage to get the mirror installed with Fevitite Rapid. But after driving for 200 Kms. When I switched my audio system to full volume, With vibrations or heat. The mount fell down.
Please let me know did you prepare the windscreen area with sand paper or primer?
Is there any specific method to fix the mount.

This is a specialist application. I feel that proper glass glues should be used.

Not only is glass smoooth but it has to cope with constant vibration and regular hard shocks.

Perhaps there are lots of other things that might work, but perhaps finding out that they don't is going to leave a very-difficult-to-remove mess on your screen. Not worth the risk of experimenting.

Why would you even do that? You should never attempt to play an audio device at its full volume. It will damage the drivers.

The mount was lightly sanded using a 1200 grit wet sandpaper and cleaned before the epoxy glue was applied. No primer was applied.

No. You just have to follow the basic procedure for gluing 2 things together. Surface preparation goes a long way to ensure that the mount is secure and firm on the long run and it doesn’t come off easily. FWIW, it has been close to X months ever since I’ve installed the mirror and it hasn’t come off the mount despite the car going over bad patches of road, being parked under the sun and the cabin getting heated and adjusting the mirror.

Enquire at shops which sells glass and mirror articles. They usually keep Bondtite in stock. Before applying the glue, ensure you scrap off the old one from the windshield properly and sand the surface if needed. Take time and do it.

I suggest you take the car to Windshield Experts (or an FNG that deals with windshield replacements) and request them to glue the mount for you using the polyurethane glue which is used to stick the windshield to the frame. This is essentially the same glue. The tube usually doesn’t cost more than 800-1000 Rs.

Hot glue won’t cut it for this application. The mount is heavy (being made of metal) and the mirror assembly is heavy as well.

Absolutely. I had originally thought of getting the OEM primer and glue imported but it wasn’t worth it. After further research on how metal can be glued to glass, I chose to go with this one.

The Fast & Clear variant it is but they don't seem to stock the smaller tube pack. It was available for less than 100 Rs for a pack of 2 tubes. The hardware stores have them, specifically the ones that retail glass and mirror articles.

Gannu Bhai, After searching a lot, Finally got the Bondtite Fast and Clear from a hardware store in Sector 45 Chandigarh. Even the owner told me that fevitite rapid comes off due to heat.

Should I use the mallet to fix the mirror to mount. I think it is difficult to slide it using hand.

Actually what I meant was high volume of the audio system not Full Volume ( Mistake).

Not really. After the mount is glued and you've given it at least a day for curing, you can simply slid the mirror on the mount with the bare hands. It should slide in and lock with a reassuring click.

Gannu_1, I have a question about the Mk7 headlight switch and the associated module you installed. Apart from the coming home and leaving home features, do headlights turn on automatically on auto mode, while driving the car, when it's dark?

I am wondering if auto-toggling between dipped beam and high beam, for halogen headlamps, is somehow possible. We may need a different clock spring, with the headlight stalk that gets flicked "in-place", to make its behavior sane for user overrides.

Yes they do. When it turns dark, the parking lights turn on first and the headlamps later when the intensity of the darkness increases. I don't recall the last time I turned on the headlamps manually.

That's good to know about auto on-off working with the retrofit.

About the stalk coming back to central position, that is exactly what I was thinking and trying to ddescribe It's good to know that someone has done it. Thanks for sharing.

We did a 1280 km, Chennai – Palakkad – Malappuram – Palakkad - Chennai drive last weekend which also happened to be my first night drive. My friend and I, started from our Chennai apartment at 9 PM on Friday, took a 20 minute break after a toll booth around 3 AM for a power nap and a coffee (which helped immensely!) and reached my Palakkad residence at 5 AM. Other than the trucks and Volvo/Scania buses, the roads were relatively free from Krishnagiri all the way till Coimbatore. The biggest bottleneck in this route is the L&T Coimbatore bypass road! The single-laned road is a pain with trucks crawling!

We started back at 3:20 PM on Sunday, paused at the A2B Thoppur for dinner around 7 PM (man, this place's minting some serious money with the sheer crowd we've seen so far!) and reached our Chennai residence at 11:30 PM. Two things that helped massively during the drive - cruise control and the bi-xenon headlights! I have to do the same trip this weekend (not opting for public transport since I'm transporting some goods).

Meanwhile, I had casually checked the engine oil level last week and found the level lower than the required mark on the dipstick. Bought a 1L bottle of Castrol Edge 5W-40 from Amazon but the dealer shipped it through Professional Courier which did not reach me before the trip. So ended up buying a can of Shell Helix Ultra from the local vendor and the engine gulped *wait for it* 950 ml! Initiated a return for the other bottle in the meantime.





The 75k service is also coming up; the odo currently stands at 73350 km. I am in two minds as to where to give her for servicing. Palakkad doesn't have a service center; there's only a satellite delivery outlet of VW Thrissur. The three service centers here in Chennai have poor feedback going by this thread. I just need to do the basic 75k service + front brake pads' replacement without any unwanted bits added. I was also thinking of Ramani VW, Coimbatore when I drive home sometime during August. Still have some time; will take a call.

So the whole PDC upgrade kit is with me now. I just need to find some time to hook ‘em up and running.

The driver side noodle mat is showing its age. Will replace it sometime. Had purchased it during Oct. '13.
