The conventional seats do make much sense, though not as comfortable. Can the conventional seats be fitted?
I guess I had benefitted from 4x4addict's experience, so when I got my vehicle, I got multi seating option for a little additional cost right at the time of delivery as one of the pre-conditions for booking the vehicle (otherwise these seats are hard to get outside and even in the showrooms afterward). The third row is almost permanently removed now, as my requirement from the vehicle has changed over the years and I do not need 5+ seating anymore. The second row captain seats and the 60-40 individually reclinable slidable seats are used interchangably. Infact havn't got to the captain seat layout in quite a while now, wasn't necessary.

re: Sheel's Mahindra Scorpio S10 4WD. 1,10,000 kms completed.

Just see the amount of rust in a carefully maintained, always garaged [when not in use] 21,xxx kms run and 17 month old Scorpio.

This is not done in my books. A lot of sweat and time goes in keeping our rides pampered.

The dealership and concerned persons have seen this, lets see what they have to say. Or rather what M&M has to say.

Simply not done! Does your car frequents Kolkata (areas nearby sea) coz rusting is fairly common in those regions, but not in our deep inland areas. I hope Mahindra looks at it seriously and finds you a solution.

Otherwise, Would suggest you get it cleaned up nicely and get a 3M anti-rust treatment done. That should solve the issue hopefully.

That is terrible!
I was strongly recommended by my sales rep and service head to go for underbody rust treatment even in dry Pune weather.

I was not so sure but went for 3M protection for peace of mind. Do check it out. One more advantage is the reduction in sound inside the cabin.

Any anti rust treatment is not a solution. It's a patch up for shoddy work from the factory. They should have dipped the chassis in the anti rust treatment paint. This has to be taken up to Mahindra and they need to solve this issue what ever may be the solution. Please don't take any line from Mahindra. This simply should not have been the case.

Agree with you Nav, only issue is how to persuade M&M after 1.5 years of purchase of the car! Sure the car is in Warranty, there are still too many variables which M&M will retort to prevent the claim. The dealer is known to Sheel and I am sure would like to place his case properly, however I have no faith in ways our local system works. Hence the 3M treatment suggestion as a last resort if m&m fails to sort it out!

Ofcourse the 3M treatment will now be a necessity whether Mahindra solves the issue or not. But the point is that these guys do give a rust warranty and moreover it should be taken up as shoddy workmanship rather than a regular warranty issue. These guys take pride in the way their vehicles are manufactured at Nashik and Chakan. They should know what they are churning out.

I'll be keeping an eye out on the underbody of my Storme as well.

Sheel

Around 3 years ago, when I had visited one of the Mahindra plants, I saw a lot of ladder frames lying around (Bolero, Xylo etc), ready for assembly. I am not sure how long they had been lying there, or when they were going to be used, but every single one of them had some amount of rust on them.

I was still fresh from my MSIL Gurgaon days, and was pretty shocked to see the lack of QC. M&M makes capable vehicles, but still has a long way to go as far as QC is concerned. Hope your problem is resolved to your satisfaction, and at M&M's cost.

Hush hush tones from people looking at warranty do suggest that chassis can be changed, but I am not sure if it is ok to change my original chassis because of superficial rust.

What to do?

The rust that you are worried about is negligible and will have not have ANY impact on the chassis for the next 100 years at least.

The rest is upto you.

IMO the best option would be to ask your dealer/Mahindra to do a complimentary rust treatment. The rust is looking superficial. If the chassis is being changed will they take it back to the factory floor to ensure perfect fit and alignment? Else it can leads to much bigger problems.

I already have done 3M coating and think to repeat it next year if I spot rust.

Did the second tire rotation, balancing and alignment. Didn't involve the spare wheel this time. The Scorpio should breach 25,000 kms this month. It is over 22K now.

4x4Addict - Off Topic.

Whats the best 4WD small / mid size utility vehicle right now in India in your opinion?

Also, need your opinion (and any news you may have) on the Jeep Wrangler Unlimited + Jeep Renegade.

Those are two possibilities that I wish to consider for myself if they are fairly priced when they come in to India...

I wish they would bring in the Jeep Cherokee Latitude - not the Grand Cherokee alone. The plain Cherokee is more than sufficiently sized for my needs.

I like the GLA's looks but I find it not worth it.
I like the Volvo V40 and all those but they are really too low slung and not worth it.
I will not consider buying the Tiguan when it comes because it is merely a half size bigger than the Yeti and will be priced in a ridiculous manner for what it offers.
The Audi Q3 and BMW X1 and Merc GLC etc are over priced for what they offer. (As you know Ive never ever been into Snob Value)
