That's good to know. Have you checked specifically ?

Easy way to check--> Swift on the AC, pour water on the belt. If the noise goes away, its the belt, if it does not, its the compressor.
Thanks, will try out this

re: Swift Diesel VDI (ABS) - 6 Years & 1.55 Lakh Kms

I have decided to live without the AC filter. Some figures as they stand today

Odometer : 1.55 lakh Kms
Diesel Consumed : 7993 litres
Spend on Diesel : 2.98 lakh
Maintenance : 1.1 lakh ( Car is running on second clutch, third set of tyres, one minor accident, second suspension setup, third battery*, insurance, oil & filter change every 5000 km )

So, average FE ~ 19.3
maintenance / km ~ 0.7 INR

The good FE is because I rarely cross 100 kmph & 2500 rpm

* The base terminal battery that replaced the OEM battery showed signs of failure just a month before the first two year warranty expired and was replaced for free under warranty)

Next steps :

1- Decide whether to sell off the car or keep it as a secondary one for occasional use by the family.

2- Suspension has started creaking again

3- Wife learnt how to drive on this, and the external body has suffered big time - almost all body panels need denting and painting.

Depending on the way forward on 1, I will decide how much to invest on point 2 & 3.

The next car will most likely be a Swift again or Dzire or Amaze.

If by any chance you decide for Option 1, I would like to say go for the Swift ZDi. All round car which ticks all the boxes.

Will be going for the Swift ZDi in March'14. Want to see when the new model with certain features are launched.

I did check, and it was never installed in the Swift sold in India. My 2010 Vdi did not have it, got it installed as an odd on from the Maruti service center.

Thanks. Any reduction in the airflow post installation ?

During the 1 L kms service for my Ritz VDi, my SA has checked and replaced the cabin air filter (it was his own decision, not mentioned in job card). It costed me Rs 350.

No reduction in air flow post installation. What I felt was the sound was lower with blower speed 2 compared to older one.

Very slight reduction in airflow, but there is a noticeable difference in the fine dust that used to settle on the dashboard.

Re: Swift Diesel VDI (ABS) - 6 Years & 1.55 Lakh Kms

Congrats on the mile munching !
I too have a SX4 diesel that has seen 60k in 2 years ..as I understand DDIS has a timing chain instead of a belt and this should last the engine life. Am I wrong in assuming that there is no need to worry about this for the near future. Asking coz could not find this in your thread, thanks.

Re: Swift Diesel VDI (ABS) - 6 Years & 1.55 Lakh Kms

Hi! Eddy,

I was wondering if you get your swift serviced from an authorized service center or from outside FNG?

Please share the details if you are getting it serviced from outside as I am looking to get my car serviced, suspension and steering overhaul. I am in Gurgaon.

Re: Swift Diesel VDI (ABS) - 6 Years & 1.55 Lakh Kms

Hi,
I own a Swift VXi 2008 and have clocked 63k kms till now. The suspension has become quite hard and I am looking for a change/overhaul. (I am inclined towards changing it as there's less chance of being unsatisfied later)

What place in Mumbai is recommended for this job? Should i go with MASS or should i look for non-MASS options as well?
What would it cost me currently? (I have read figures in the previous pages but dated 2012 so costs may be different)

Re: Swift Diesel VDI (ABS) - 6 Years & 1.55 Lakh Kms

So, My 2010 Swift Vdi is still going strong at 58k kms, and the fuel efficency, pickup, etc is perfect. Only bothersome issue is the turbo noise. Its really loud, a constant drone when I go beyond 1700-1800 rpm and its making me deaf. Dont recall if its always been there or its been getting louder with time.

Can others tell me if you've been experiencing similar noise levels with their swift diesels too, and if you've managed to do anything about it.

Could be a leak. Get the hoses checked.

Anurag , Was there any A/C cleaning done during the 1 L kms service ?
Two months back I gave my Ritz for 40000 kms service and I asked Maruti A** engg to install A/C filter which costs 350/- .
He said that he would need to clean the A/C vent area first and then fit the A/C filter . This procedure would include removing the entire dash , cleaning and refitting the dash which is a time consuming process and labour intensive. The cost for cleaning & labour inclusive is Rs.2000/- .

I backed out as I don't want to alter the fittings of factory set dash board and also I was suspicious about the cleaning fact.

He is giving you GOLI.

To insert the Cabin air filter,we just need to remove the glove box.

I didn't choose for AC cleaning as he told the dashboard will be removed! I simply told him to change the filter and give it. I cleaned the AC vents on a Sunday as a DIY.

The fact is the filter never existed in my car so I didn't want to take risk of opening the dash. Anyway Maruti is known for rattles and why give then another chance to induce rattles!

Just don't accept it. Get the filter changed. That's all.
