The spacers at the front have not worked out. I am in the process of removing them. I will post a detailed report once it is done.

Out of curiosity, what tyres do you have for these conditions? If winter tyres, do you swap them when you get back to warmer climes?

Using Maxis AT tyres, and yes used chains few times.
Sad to hear the spacer experience, I will drop the plans for it now

Maxis AT tyres, I keep the same tyres for both summer and winter. I do use snow chains at times when conditions are really bad
Yesterday, my 2L Grand Vitara with 131,000kms on its clutch,
managed to rescue a beached Tata Safari in Goa.
It's Slow, it Guzzles, it's Small, it's rare and these qualities makes it unique for me.
Every time the idea of letting this car go for a more butch Fortuner or the new Endevour ,the thought fades away a few day later. This car is special!
Contemplating on getting ironmans on it , not that I am going off road but to get a better stance.
I fitted Ironman on my Thar daily driver and after one year of use have completely stopped driving the Thar because my back is stuffed.
Ironman is really good for improving handling but will make your ride quality really STIFF.
Out of curiosity, how is the ride quality of a Grand Vitara compared to an old Fortuner and Duster AWD?
On ride quality, the Duster is better than the Grand Vitara, which is in turn better than the old Fortuner.

I'll have to think twice about the ironmans in this case. Though, I have no complaints about the handling of this car specially after slipping Roger rabs in the springs which improves the dynamics drastically.
Comparing the two examples with Grand Vitara would not justify as for me all three vehicles are in different segments of what we call SUV's. Starting at bottom with Duster, then Grand Vitara and Fortuner.

Grand Vitara stock and Duster are comparable, though duster 4 wheel drive has slight edge. Fortuner on the other hand is stiffer. I have a friend who has 4 wheel duster with iron man shocks minus the springs, and they are really good. Another with a fortuner and soft iron man set up in front and that definitely does better than stock, though duster still scores better. So if you are after ride quality, duster awd is the right bet.

I am looking at replacing the Cabin filter on GV and I have been quoted 6500+ Taxes for it by Bimal auto.Did you buy this from an authorised centre ?

I used a Creta filter and some thermocole packing stuck on with fevikwik.

It has been 6 months now and is working fine.
In my case the Creta aftermarket filter needed no modifications, it was a direct fit.
I have felt the sound quality and overall capabilities of the stock head unit to be a bit limited for current day & age usage. No bluetooth, no navigation, No-reverse camera, almost nothing to talk about.. except a 6 CD-Changer in day and age of internet streaming :Frustrati
So, got an Android HU installed in the Grand Viatara. It's a custom made head unit for Grand Vitara and is almost plug and play, with even the steering controls working perfectly fine.
The Head Unit, neatly integrated with the rest of central console. Good thing is that the illumination lights on HU are red in color and match the overall look-n-feel
The Android 8.1 based HU home screen.
Most important-- Google maps can be used for navigation. Just connect via hotsopt of your phone and your HU is as powerful as your phone!
Has a dedicated GPS module that I have installed near the front windscreen
Supports video playback and the works. Very important is the reverse camera (the camera I am using is still the old one and will upgrade to something better later on)
This is the system, in case folks here want to know the details of the model etc.
Some pics during the install. Just one wiring harness to connect. No wires cut anywhere
The good thing is that this HU has provision for amp put, sub, etc etc. SO later on adding these also will be plug and play from a HU capability perspective.
First impressions of sound quality is that it is a lot lot better than OE HU. Google Map navigation works fine -- just like you would expect. Steering control work perfectly (and can be mapped to new functions as well on HU)
Overall happy! More after using for a few weeks.
