The workshop in-charge feels it must be electrical. More diagnosis will be done. Unfortunately they are unable to replicate the problem so far.

There is a fuel pump relay as well which could be heating / acting up .

The DIY way to check the pump - when it stops and acts up , open the bonnet and hold the fuel pipe that feeds the injector rail (black prominent one on the rail mounting ) while having someone switch on/off the ignition , you will feel fuel flowing inside the pipe if the pump is working . Its a crude but most effective way to figure out.

2 Grand Vitaras in our group has had somewhat similar issues lately , both were related to fueling components

Hope this helps

I am assuming the tank is fitted back. If you have pics with the tank lowered, and the wiring harness connected to both the pump/ main gauge and the sub-fuel gauge, kindly share.

I don't have such detailed pics. But I am ensuring that every post here is being read by the service in-charge, so that there is no loss in communication. Every tip mentioned here is being considered and ticked off.

My GV is serviced by the same team for 13+ years, so they are making sure no stone is left unturned. :D

This is exactly what came up for me. Though this case is the reverse of that one :)

Samurai: has the GV now done 1.3L km ?

Hello

I could help your local team by patching them through to the guy who we call the GV Enclyopedia - The gent in question has won the Tuners Trophy in the Desert Storm ,Raid De Himalaya and Dakshin Dare, 13 times with the GV.

Our world famous Dakar Riders GV was also bought under his supervision.

He is the guy who built the Official Maruti Suzuki GV's for the entire duration MS was in motorsports with a works team, and contrary to other top tuners he is still very accessible and I am sure will be happy to help .

The following discrepancies come out from your posts which could lead to the issues you mention:

1. The old battery in your Grand Vitara is 65AH - (95D26R)

2. You mention that they came with a new 65AH battery which they have fixed.

3. The bill, however is only for a 35 AH battery - (PRO50B20R)

4. Fixing a 35AH battery where a 65AH is required is enough to create the problems / symptoms you have mentioned - (starting problems after driving a little bit).

Please check whether the battery fixed is incorrect or the billing is incorrect.

Wow, that's interesting... never noticed that.

But it always starts at first crank, when maximum current is required. When I got stranded I was able to start it 50 times and then engine used to die.

Anyway, we will check that out.

The lower ampere rating of the battery will not be sufficient to stabilize the voltage to the engine during the initial phase after starting the engine. This variation could lead to the engine dying out. A change to the right spec battery would resolve the issue.

If I recall correctly, the OEM battery was only 45AH. I upgraded to 65AH because I was hoping to install a winch, I was very active in offroading scene then. After that I just to stuck 65AH, because that is what I had before. :coldsweat

I believe most running on highways ?

How much off-roading with the GV ? Either way, excellent life & usage.

This is the current state of 3 igniters. The order was placed for 4 igniters last time, but only one has arrived. But the service in-charge says this may not be the problem.

I'd say 50% in 4-lane highways, 30% on 2-lane ghat roads, 15% city roads, and 5% in real bad roads and offroading.

For me, clutch wear & tear is more in city roads than in offroad, since I am very careful not to burn clutch in offroad trails.

Check this rescue I did in a Goa beach two year ago, when I had 131K on the clutch.

Turns out it was the problem. Once the broken igniters were replaced, the problem vanished.

Sorry, I didn't update the thread for a long time. Right after the car was delivered, before I could do any long drive tests, my son had to undergo shoulder operation. So I got too busy dealing with that. After that I have driven close to 2000kms without any starting problem, including three 400kms drives. I am no more afraid to stop for more than 15 minutes during long drives.

For the benefit of Grand Vitara owners, dropping a link to BHPian Vigsom's awesome thread on solving a fuel gauge issue.

A daunting question is pestering me for a while, whether to retain the GV for another 5+ years or sell it before it completes 15years (in Feb 2023).

And what better place to seek advise then T-BHP.

Factors to be considered:

The car has a new clutch, new tyres, battery and regular maintenance done.

Impending front suspension/brake work this year, lets say 60K for this. Apart from this no major repairs expected.

There is a lot of uncertainty on the scrappage policy and penalties on re-registration after completion of 15years. It is difficult to calculate the exact amount however back of envelop calculation are approximately 1 Lac plus for road tax, Fitness, etc.

Lot of uncertainty and lac of clarity on benefits/discounts of scrapping the car.

Once sold there will be a need for new/pre-worshipped car for 10/6 Lac as per my budget.

Meanwhile got an offer of 1.6+ for the vehicle.

Shall I opt for re-registration and retain the GV for 5 more years(Post Feb 2023) or go with the above offer. While my heart doesn't agree with parting with the GV and I keep searching for excuses to retain it.
Many members and GV owners must be in a similar situation, what are your thoughts.
