The hum in the AT box must be because of wear in the flanks of the gears.
It could also be due to bearing wear, but that has a different whining noise.

Just try a change of the AT oil. If the noise reduces the hum may be because the oil has deteriorated. In my experience AT oil needs to be changed,in Indian conditions, after 5-6 years.

More interested in transfer case gear box which is common for both MT/AT cars.

Did that and still the hum persists. Also tried XADO treatment.

It's like the differential hum that was so much common in Ambassador cars. And the hum has some sort of frequency related to speed. The hum is pronounced around 40kmph, 60, 80 and 100kmph. In between it's slightly goes down.

Other than that no problem but

Any GV groups in Bangalore , i have recently shifted here , need help with some trusted mechanics around here

You can check with authorised centres like Surakshaa (Electronic City) & Mandovi (JP Nagar). These two places I know, and has worked on my car.

The hum could be because of a worn cross and pinion? I also have that hum and it is diagnosed as the worn out C&P in the front diff. The ordered parts have come to Motorcraft but I am not finding the time to go there as yet and get it replaced.

Will await your experience inputs.

Maybe we can meet and compare hum's

😁

How about a visit to the city beautiful then? Its much better, the weather that is, here than the NCR :D

Was there on 7th for Trail Blazing,.. Let's see when the next visit pans out

Dedicated to all those of us who placed our bets on the Grand Vitara

Yesterday, in the torrential downpour in Vadodara (approx 17in. Rainfall in 5 hrs), the Grand Vitara and I came out virtually unscathed, standing in traffic in upto waist deep and at times, wading through even deeper water.

There was approx 8 inches water inside the car and the seat belt warning sign started coming on even with the driver side belt in place.

The experience that I've gone through today should never ever happen to any of you, but I've seen the Grand Vitara go through water with water flowing over the bonnet at times.

Engine was always on, in idle, and I was either standing in water OR just inching forward, having to turn around at a couple of places too.

It was like doing a river crossing OR better still, standing in the middle of a river.

Somewhere I'd assumed that I'll have to desert the Grand Vitara, but nothing happened.

There were portions where the road would dip and that was where the tension would mount too, but this fellow just went on and on.

A 35 minute ride back home was finally over in 4hrs 45 minutes and I can only say, Take a Bow Grand Vitara.clap:

Some pics I took

Okay, here comes part2 - Inspection and Treatment

I checked the engine bay last night and again this morning - no abnormality observed

1. Engine Oil - check
2. AT oil - check
3. AC Compressor - check
4. ABS - check
5. Air filter - check
6. Brakes - check

The boot carpet was intact, but the passenger area carpet was all soaked with standing water underneath, especially in the front. I had to remove all the insulation material, which was holding most of the water. There are only 2 drain plugs driven in the floor and both of those are in the rear passenger footwells.

Since I am a doctorate in car cleaning, having done an Etios in 2016 and other cars prior, this wasn't difficult to strategize, but was quite taxing to execute.

I've left all the stuff to dry and will do another round of cleaning.

Just check the diff oils too...sometimes in deep water breather pipes intake water. Though honestly I am not aware of the location or if indeed GV diff's have breathers. This is common problem in many vehicles.

Thank You Sudev.

The differential oil inspection is on the cards. Service centers and FNGs are flooded with cars now.

Three days on and the floor pan has been cleaned from this

This time, I kept the carpet in place, removed all the insulation and dried out every corner of the carpet using newspaper.

The easier way out is to remove the seats and the carpet but with no support and all garages packed, I decided to finish this off all by myself.

Some parts of the carpet just need a sunny day to go bone dry; after that all the foam and insulation will get back in.

Guys the magnetic clutch of the AC compressor is gone. Boodmo shows a part number 95210-64JB0 for the same and the cost is around 9300 INR. The magnetic clutch for GV is also available on Ali express for about 2500-3500 INR. However, the OEM part numbers mentioned on Aliexpress are different, though it mentions, that the said clutch is for the GV 2.0 AT, 2007 model. What is your opinion? Stick to Boodmo or go for Aliexpress? How can I ensure that the part ordered from AE is the right one?

What's the "extension case" as mentioned in the manual?

It even says that it will take .47L of oil.

I can understand the following:
- engine oil
- gear box oil (transmission oil)
- Diff-oil (rear & front)
- t-case oil (transfer oil, for 4x4)

What's this extension case oil? Anyone changed this?
