Thats a pretty reasonable amount for the service done to the car. Look forward to the travelogue with some nice pictures of the hill stations enveloped in fog ( assuming you went during this winter)

Hmm. At 2 years, 9 months, I have done only the 20K km service for my Baleno. You sure drive around a lot, BP.

yup, went there this winter (Dec 21 - Dec 30). will surely post the pics after two or three days as I am very busy right now on the home front, so no time after office to even log on to tbhp .

hmmm, that I do, but would have done a lot more if petrol was a little cheaper and getting holidays was easier . but guess thats the case with almost all people in this forum.

ok, a brief overview - on 16th night 5 friends embarked on a trip to vizag in an esteem and returned on 19th night. I was able to convince one of the friends about the addiction of team-bhp. this guy will be joining soon and will write the travelogue as he is, unlike me, a very good writer.

3 years completed on 15th March 2008

The day before yesterday BlackPearl spent her 3rd birthday with me and took her for a long drive at night to Maithon (247 Kms from Kolkata). Started from Kolkata at 11:30, never took her above 60 Kmph and reached Maithon at 5 'o' clock sharp. For the first time in my life I realised how it felt to be overtaken on the highway by trucks and ambys . A Verna 1.6 driver tried a lot to instigate me to start a race with him, but I could not afford to reach Maithon at the middle of the night. So he had to leave with a heavy heart. Started from Maithon at 7 am and reached home at 10:30.. Kilometer reading - 47417. BlackPearl managed to keep the smile on my face as usual 3 years in a row..

You mean you never shifted to 2nd???

What FE did you get?

The return too seems slow by your standards. Had interesting people + 'adda' in the car?

but you have to. I must say that it was a different sort of experience and I could not travel faster as it would be no use reaching Maithon in the middle of the night.

did not check it but must have got above 20 kmpl

Last time when you went to North Bengal, I recall that you did the journey from Kolkata to Siliguri at night. What is experience like, the things that to be kept in mind on NH34, especially during nighttime.

I did it in the morning hours, 10 am to 11:30 pm, with a 30 minute break - definitely traffic and the bridge problems were all there.

So that's 247kms in 3hrs. IMO you would normally do it quicker. Just to give you an idea why I'm saying this.

Last christmas I did 220kms (IIRC) door to door; Kolkata Asansol in 2hrs 45m (started 930am ish) and 2hrs 50m Asansol Kolkata (started 2pm ish)

This with family, a 5 min break each way, and never crossing 120.

.... Maybe if the Verna was around during your return

ps: How is the road from NH-2 to Maithon? Does that take time?

As far as I remember I did not reach NH34 till sunrise. Started from home at 12 in the night, drove at a very sedate pace to reach Panagarh at 3 am. Reached Moregram (where the road through Siuri meets NH34) at about 6 o clock. So while going I did not travel through NH34 at night. It is better to travel on NH34 at night or early morning as the roads are less congested. After 10 o clock all the villagers seem to flock on the highway and it is very difficult to maintain a steady pace.
