As usual they would rather watch it break and then make the owner pay for more!

She came back with a Rs 12000 bill

9000 =-servicing
2000 - lower arm rebush
1000 - interior clean

Remaining was for service - fuel filter and pollen filter was changed. Timing belt was inspected and deemed ok. Car feels taughter. Need to tdrive for a while before making full conclusions.

Delivery was a pain. Reached at 5 but only got delivery at 6.15. Car seats were cleaned and got dirty again (someone moved car with soiled tousers so recleaning required). Service advsor was all over the place. To cut some slack, he joined 15 days ago

i agree , the white part of the seats and the door trim always get dirtier after a service.

ajmat , what did the service bill for 9k include other than oil,oil filter and fuel filter?

Overall break up

Pd Service 920
Brakes cleaning 200
Vas scanning 200 (rip off should be part of service)
Lower arm replace - 250
Lathe works for removing/refit bush 500
wheeel align 400
upholstry cleaning 1000 (this time medicre job - previsouly - fab job)

oil filter 331
"consumables" 133
Pollen filter 480
fuel filter 417
rubber bushes 1288
air duct 188

Rest mainly taxes

Keep an eye out for camber outs as a precaution - after the rebushing.

I plan to do another alignment after 1000 km, once suspension has bedded in

Update - car was running fine exception for slight uneven idle. Last weds - not a good day - a private bus mildly sideswipes the front on HAL airport road when taking the curve depositing paint - imagine if it was a Honda!

Later in the evening took my daughter for a class in Jayanagar. Dropped here, went to buy some medicien then stopped at a car dealer to kick some tyres. Drove back 0.5 km and car starts misfiring slightly.

Stop outside the class, remove cover, connections look ok. Priority is to get the girl home. Class over, we face Double road at peak hour. Car is rough but moves, I don't push it. Engine check light flashes. At every traffic light, I switch off and reset. Reach home and plug in VAG COM (a god send) - no 1 coil pack

Hello - I do recall replace No 1 sometime back when I fiddled a little too much but again they might have got mixed up during the TB incident. Luckily, I have a new set, this time, I will replace all.

Wake up and do a 6am replacement. Some thingy on top of No 4 needs removal with an allen key and an allen bit gets stuck in coil pack insert and cylinder head. Keep calm and get a long nose plier

Start the car - it runs sweet, better still, low down power is pretty good

Viddy - try the car now!

Update - Tarox Strada pads added last week. 300km on, they bite nicely

Car is a lot smoother. Took it for an emission test. It emits 50% less HC than before. The CO level is the same

He should be busy with his new one. I'll do that before him. We need to figure out that other brake pad set too.

Boys wait for me :D

Glad to hear that coil pack suspense is over and finally you plonked in the new set, coincidence that they packed after service or swapped without knowledge? :( :D Enjoy the tarox.

That will take a while, he is inventing a new day of the week

:D tougher than a Tata car to maintain.

Got the alignment and wheel balancing done. Except for one wheel, none of the others needed weights so perfect natural balance.

Car tracks well and is immensely stable. Very little vertical yaw

Fuel consumption reduced from 7.5 to 9 on last fill. Have not been driving like a priest though

Typo alert !!! please:

Returned from a weeks trip to the US and went to collect my car (parked under cover at my mother's).

Pressed remote - nothing, turned key, opened door. Engine would not turn. I had half expected it and it happened - battery

The signs had been there - one headlight would barely flicker on and needed another try. The starter was slowing down.

Tried jumpstartng from the getz but that took some effort. I connected the cars up but the skoda would not turn. Getz battery was also low. Started the Getz and revved it for a while. Tried the Skoda and it barely started. Drove it home and parked. Restarted - dead - battery was totally dead and not holding charge.

I verified battery capacity and called Amaron who put me on to a local distributor. Time was 6.15Pm. They had the battery in stock. Asked them to fit tomorrow evening if they could not come now. 5 min later, th mechanic calls, 7.10 PM - battery was fitted. Cost Rs 7000. Engine starts in a tick. Headlights flick right on. I have a problem in that am used to holding the me for a while so the starter protests since engine is already fired. Am over that now. Quite impressed that an exide lasted 4.5 years.

A week later, go for a rocking party, return to car at 2 am to find a low life has flicked my passenger mirror and cracked the drivers mirror. Like all manufacturers, Skoda will charge around 12000 for the whole unit. I returned home and surfed and found a person in the UK dealing in the replacement glass. Luckily using Paypal. I ordered two replacement glasses for around Rs 4000. Today - (10 days later) it arrives by post. Had to pay Rs 960 as duty.

Replaced the passenger door mirror. Straight press fit. The heater cables were too short but am not sure if they were connected. Was tempted to glue the mirror glass but it would make things difficult - would end up cutting my nose to spite my face.

The driver side has stress cracks. Will let that solder on for a while.

So remember Wing Mirror Replacement from Wingmirrorman. You can pay via paypal. ordered on sunday morning and it was despatched on sunday.
