TSK: Thar is really not a replacement for the Safari. It is more a bachelor/buddy vehicle. It can never be a family vehicle. Even if you do end up changing the rear seat configuration to forward facing seat set up it won't be comfortable from a family perspective. The Thar is really not a family SUV like the Safari, it is a very, very refined Jeep.
I agree with Suman's comment below. Once you get used to the interiors space of the Safari you will find it really claustrophobic in the Scorpio. I have driven my Scorpio over 10,000 kms and I keep thinking how cramped this thing is every time I step inside. It feels a lot more airy and comfortable when I sit in the driving seat of the safari.
Regarding the Scorpio 5K service intervals, The oil Change periords are not every 5k. The first oil change is at 5k then 20K and then every 20K with Maximile synthetic oil. Transmission oil change is at 80K. 4x4 Transfer every 40K kms. Front and rear diffs at 5K and then 40K intervals. The other 5K services are just vision inspections that require not fluid or part changes. In fact, I am not even going to bother with those 5K intervals which are just inspections.
They are more for peace of mind than anything else. The other thread about Captain Chandru from coimbatore, having a very high per km service cost is due to his mistake. He kept sending it with his driver and the dealership kept doing an oil change every 5K kilometers. Dealers will be more than happy to increase their income. I am very strict that the dealer does only scheduled maintenance as per Mahindra recommendations. For my first service the dealer added some rip-off item called Engine Care for Rs. 650. I contact Mahindra and they made the dealer refund the amount.
What ever other issues Scorpio may have the maintenance is really low and should not be a concern. Mahindra should do away with the 5K *service/inspection* as they are just giving an opportunity to the dealer to rip off the customer by changing fluids that are not required at 5K. Quote:

I feel it is best to wait for the upgraded Safari. Even with the new world SUV from Mahindra, I wouldn't buy any brand new platform for a couple of years until they iron out the issues. Atleast with the upgraded Safari, you know that 90 percent of the vehicle has been around for a number of years. I only wish they would improve their QC process and it would have been a no brainer.
Given the impact on raising diesel prices due to the commercial use, i doubt the govt will have the guts to decontrol/raise diesel prices drastically especially as we get closer to elections. |
