Something wrong with your Linea to give consistently improving FE figures?!

LOL!!

I think with the changing weather and lowered usage of AC, its going to get better.

Thanks for your comments. Always a pleasure to hear from you.

I was reading your thread on the Clutch slave cylinder failure that day and the ordeal you had to go through in taking the car to the service station little knowing that the same thing would hit me today

Went to Gurgaon for some work today afternoon and was negotiating a speed breaker when the car a Linea 1.4 E+ jerked badly and shut down, within a second i realised, damn its the slave cylinder as the clutch was proudly buried into the floor.

Everyone started honking badly and thanks to you and others experience, i switched the car off, slotted in first, cranked and with some jerks took the car out on the main road all in 1st gear and switched off.

Nearest service centre was ABS motors and i have visited them a couple of times so gave a call to their works manager at 4 PM telling him about it, he said he is on leave and asked me to call another guy, i called him and these guys were very helpful, i told them it would be impossible to drive the car for 10 kms in traffic in first gear so asked them to tow the vehicle.

Informed me they would send some one and charges would be 550 and i agreed, did i have any option? I was feeling helpless seeing how bad these guys are in towing etc and the delays it would cause, at 5 PM a Sumo Grande came, the mechanic came, joined the chain and started towing advising me to brake when he does and steer behind him.

Meanwhile called dad to pick me up from the service station and he was on his way, reached the service centre, waited 15 mins for some one to come and prepare a jobcard, also mentioned them to replace the fuel filler lid and was advised it would cost 700-800, they were even charging me for CSC but i told them its under warranty. Car will be handed over tomorrow evening.

Am amazed that after so many failure, FIAT has still not worked on this CSC, i know the parts can fail etc but this was a complete breakdown which i have never experienced in any car since last 15 years of owning hyundai's maruti's and Mahindra.

This incident has taken a big hit on my confidence in the reliability of the car, just last week i was 1300 kms away from Delhi in some hills and shudder to think of what would have happened if this breakdown took place there, the old workhorse Scorpio is still 80k old and never ever did it break down.

Dont know if FIAT did any modifications or the same design would be fit again and which would again fail a few thousand kms later.

Is the new CSC metal one? It was replaced at 4k kms by the svc themselves but it came out to be the plastic one, broken in pieces.

Sorry to hear failure of CSC. The new CSC is metallic as against the old plastic CSC.

Thanks Raviji,
I just hope these guys have the part in stock. Atleast the svc helped me out at 4 PM when i called them and not like south delhi workshops who plainly refuses to tow the vehicle, that is downright shameless. After reading your posts and on the forum did i come to know that this CSC should have been changed to the steel one long back in Apr 2011 when the car went for its scheduled service but they forgot to inform me, will shoot a mail to FIAT and one more apology letter will come, already have 2 of em.

I was busy with my life but with Tata and Linea, we need to keep a check ourselves instead of relying on them. No call from SA yet on the work status of my car, so much for a CSC replacement. In the estimate they are charging me for CSC replacement under labour, is it right? Car is under extn warranty.

Quoting a member with a brilliant post "The luxuries of pick n drop, leaving car overnight at svc's and relying on the SA etc should be best left to maruti, honda etc" , i so agree with it.

Will Fiat never learn. Sorry to hear about your troubles. Did you get the car back? Was the work done to your staisfaction?

Edit - which work shop carried out the work?

I am itching to post my latest service experience (early this month) but am just not getting the time. Will post the same ASAP. Just to get you warmed up, my bill for the 45,000 km service was around Rs 9,000 (only).

I hope they do, what they need is atleast one FIAT exclusive service centre in every major city.

I got the car back the very next day and am extremely satisfied with their work, the service centre is ABS motors, Gurgaon. They have made 2 separate sections, one for tata and other for fiat cars, different mechanics and SA advisors for both sections and they are doing a very good job.

Sent a friend to get his CSC changed and he just called to say he is happy with the work being done.

The bold part in the post above should read - 60% highway and 40% city.

Issue - the front suspension has started making a squeaking noise whilst going over a speed bump. Need to have this checked.

Re: Linea 1.4 (E+) - 1 year ownership review

FE Update

Tank full to tank full - 15.25 kmpl
As per MID - 15.90 kmpl
Average speed - 39 kmph

This is 30% city and 70% highway(ish) driving with 25% AC usage.

I guess the fuel cut off (whilst getting the tank topped up @ the bunk) kicked in a bit early as the fuel needle in my car was hovering a notch below full. I guess it was off by about 1 - 1.5 litres. Taking this into account, the average consumption would be around 14.68 kmpl.
