Thats not a bad idea, however I just spoke to the Hyundai regional manager and another HASS from another city. The HASS told me that I should ask my dealer to face the head and change the head gasket first before doing anything else. He said that block replacement is ridiculous at this mileage.
Lets see if the Hyundai dealer agrees.

So first ask Hyndai what is normal compression for a healthy engine then get the compression test done at another local garage to verify what they are saying is correct. I do not know why Block should be replaced in Elentra engine normally the cylinder has a sleeve which is replaced and also piston ring needs to be replaced. Block replacement is required if there is a crack or something similar.

If the expense is really 2.88 lakhs then I think it is better to sell off the car.

Again very valid point. Same thing suggested by the HASS too.

Latest letter from the Hyundai *** in Guwahati

Dear Sir

After dismantanled the engine we have seen the bore dia is more than the prescribed limit.

But you are insisting us to put sleeve, which is not recommendable by Hyindai. We will do accroding to your wish, but we will not give any warranty/ guarrantee. Then the estimate will be less.

Waiting for your reply.

With Regards

Service Dept.

I am not sure if you have already opened the engine or not, but you could have tried using Xado to improve the compression first.

I remember, someone here also used Xado for improving cylinder compression and it worked perfectly. Search and you will find his post and the results.

Updates are mostly bad, as I posted, the Guwahati A.S.S refuses to guarantee anything without replacing the block. It seems Hyundai India too agrees with this ridiculous diagnosis.

Am considering trucking the car to Kolkata.

Any other thoughts?

Well. Its a long story. Hyundai *** at Guwahati maintains that its going to cost 3,50,000. The Hyundai India guy at Kolkata said the same thing. Hyundai Customer Care doesnt respond.

Finally got fed up and trucked the car to Kolkata ( was an ordeal finding a transporter from Guwahati to Kolkata) .

Car arrives tomorrow and goes to HASS here for the job. Estimate is 1.5 L and 20 days.

First instance of Hyundai behaving like Skoda. But unlike Skoda, this is an exception that proves the rule, so I suppose, I`ll just have to grin and bear it.

Any thoughts?
