Re: Skoda Octavia vRS - 12/2004 - Diamond Grey - Update @ 46500 kms

Great thread, v&v!

Looking for a fun-to-drive car on a budget and the RS is making a strong case for itself.

Any particular reason you chose to put the new tires on the front?
Typically it is always recommended to put the new tires on the rear.

Thanks anekho. Well RS looks like a budget car but at times the maintenance can be very expensive too. Its tricky and you should get a clean car.

As for the tyres , the existing front one were too in good condition and is as good as new. If you see the spec, the tyres were of lower profile 50 instead of 55. Was looking for better grip and stiffer side wall will improve responsiveness. Steering feedback has improved on the cost of bumpier ride.

Also isn't new tyres recommended at rear for wet conditions to avoid over-steer. My drives involves mostly straight-line accelerations, so grippier tyre was opted for front .

v&v, you got it serviced from where and which brand Water Pump did you use? Further a damage of 13.5k for an Octavia is really a sweet deal, Maglev got his friend's i20 Petrol service done yesterday (All Old Lubes & Filters along with Few Other Things Replaced but Mineral Oil used) for the same amount from Rama Hyundai, Vasant Kunj.

Secondly get rid of that Sony player. Install a nice in dash dvd or 2-DIN player from pioneer/kenwood
Hey, I've been looking for a good player for my Octavia. Any suggestions? It should fit well in the dash, and have an Aux input. USB not a priority. Bluetooth for music would be a bonus.

I had been servicing my RS at Mahavir Enclave. He is an ex skoda engineer. Has most for the regular spares. All spares are OE.

re: Skoda Octavia vRS - 12/2004 - Diamond Grey - Update @ 54000 kms

RS is been performing trouble free (somewhat).
No major issues to highlight. Issues faced during last one year.

Had to replace cooling coil @ FNG costed be 9k.
Passenger door sometime doesn't lock by remote. Didn't bother to get it repaired.
Passenger side Washer cap got damaged in parking. Status N/A at A.S.S also. Need to hunt for one.

Current ODO reading is at 53400. This year the overall running was less due to my busy schedule.

Summary of works done... Nitanshu's workshop. (He has now added scanning facility for almost all Indian Cars including Tata Safari and Scorpio. Also he has bought scanners for Beamer too.

1. Air filter
2. Oil filter
3. Mobil 1 Engine Oil 4L + .5L (extra)
4. Wiper blades
5. Throttle body cleaning...

Total cost : 7k

Re: Skoda Octavia vRS - 12/2004 - Diamond Grey - Update @ 54000 kms

Hi Team,

got my self a pre-owned VRS here in Bangalore.

The car is a 1st owner car and maintained well, has done about 113k kms and as per the service records need the next service at either 116k kms or jan 2016 which ever comes first.

Got all the things including the spare key, the manual and the service records with the car.

As per the service records the car was last serviced at 103k kms and the car was religiously serviced at Tafe-electronic city with a 15k kms interval.

I am assuming that since its serviced regularly at the ASC ,they must have changed all the necessary part(timing belt , water pump etc) hopefully with genuine parts.

I have done a lot of research about symptoms and major issues (after buying the car) here at Team-Bhp ,briskoda and also got some advice from the EURO CAR GURU.

Thank God haven't had any issues yet with a few hundred kms under my belt.

Wanted to know if i take the car to ASC Vinayak-kr puram( which is closer to my place) will they tell me what all has been replaced in the car and at what interval will give me a fair idea of the future part replacements.

Also can anybody please advise me on any capable independent garage for service and parts replacement in furture as i intend God willingly keep and use the car for a few more years with out having to go to ASC as i have heard a lot of negative feedback about them.

Thanking you.

Switch headlights on and activate windscreen washers.

Jet is forceful and can annoy nearby 2 wheelers but also good fun pranking colleague when driving through the campus!

Okay, Another question !

I am unable to figure out how the cruise control works. I read the online manual which say it can be activated once the car goes above 30 kmph.

Can you please guide step up step on how to go about it.

While cruising, activate the switch, then press SET button for the sspeed, you want to cruise at. It will then cruiuse at same speed until you touch the brakes. In my Jetta, also the clutch disengages.

To resume, there is a RESUME button
