Hi guys... excellent thread this. It has been a great source of information for me. I will be taking delivery of a grey polo 1.6 this weekend and i have query, haven't read it being discussed anywhere on this forum.
Now the new polo comes with EORVMs & consequently the rear power window controls for the driver have been omitted. So how does one roll up the rear windows from the drivers seat? As i understand the remote gets deactivated once the key is inserted in the ignition, so we cant use that either or can we?
For eg. what if i am driving with the rear windows rolled down and it suddenly starts raining. Do i have to stop the car, get out, open the rear door and then shut the window or do i tempt fate by reaching back from the drivers seat itself?
Can some Polo owners please shed some light on this.

I guess you have 2 options -
1) Stop the car. Get out in the rain. Enter through the right rear door and close the right rear window. Get out, and go around the car, enter through the left rear door and close the left rear window. Finally get out and go around the car to reach the drivers door, enter and restart the car back. . Oh! and by this time you are absolutely wet, so you need to take another stop to find the towel and a change of dress.
2) Don't ever open the rear window if you don't have a rear passenger.

The remote does not close the windows anymore - even when it is not inserted in the ignition.
But then what would you have done if it was like the Ford Figo with no power windows at the rear? I had rejected the Figo because of this.

I was afraid of that. There can be many scenarios were the rear windows can be rolled down eg. what if i am driving with some passengers in the back seat and they have the windows rolled down. Now i drop them off someplace but forget to roll up the rear windows (which can often happen) before driving off and it starts to rain??
My previous car a zen vxi did not have rear power windows but at least i could roll the windows up while still sitting in the drivers seat (stationary car of course). Don't think i can stretch that far in the polo.
Oh well, guess we will just have to remember the windows then. I am sure the VW sales rep. will have some stupid safety reason for eliminating this feature.. like the rear windows not rolling all the way down.

sometimes when i forget that i have access to rear window controls near the dash and suddenly i need to roll up the rear windows - i usually:

1. slow down / park
2. pull back the seat
3. roll up both rear windows at the same time through the controls on the doors.

it is quite easy since i am used to it in the Padmini with manual rollers on all sides (usually avoid point number 2 in the padmini).

But access to rear window roller controls near the driver's seat is a basic requirement these days. it can be done with running two parallel switches (for rear doors) and connecting a used window controller near the driver's seat.

Well I don't think it's such a major problem that one needs to get out of the car to roll up the windows. Just stop the vehicle, remove seat belts and turn inside the car and climb a little up if your hands still don't reach, you can easily close windows. Common, not all the cars that we have used till now in India for our generation had power windows to begin with, how would one do with regular windows.

P.S --- I totally agree and detest VW for removing control of rear power windows from the new polos. What were they thinking. Just to position vento a bit upwards ??? Ridiculous I must say

Palio has this feature which is quite opposite. Turn on the A/C the fan automatically starts in the lowest speed even if the speed control is set to 0.

All,
Had gone for a longish drive to Dhanbad from Kolkata and back last Saturday (500+kms). Got amazing FE figure of 15.5 KMPL (calculated TF to TF). Drove at a steady speed of between 100 and 110 kmph, occassionally going up to 140 but not staying there for more than a few minutes. Used minimum gear change. The MID showed an average FE of 16 kmpl.

Disc Brake Lock Up on Polo 1.6

Firstly, sorry to hijack your ownership thread, sadnabrina. I couldn't find a better place. Mods, if this is not the right place, please feel free to move/delete this post.

My friend who owns a Polo 1.6 faced a strange issue on Saturday. We were riding in his car and had just entered the parking and put the transmission in reverse when we heard a very disturbing (metal grinding against metal) noise from the front of the car. We immediately stopped to investigate and could feel a lot of heat emanating from the front wheels and the engine compartment. Initially, we thought it may be a transmission issue and tried moving the car in the first gear to find the same result.

On closer examination, we saw that the disc brakes (pic attached) had jammed and the brake pad (or whatever was left of it) had carved a perfect circle on the disc. We pushed the car to the parking with the help of the watchman and opened up the bonnet to check the vital fluids, brake fluid being the number one suspect. To our surprise, we found that the brake fluid level was full, however, the coolant level was low.

Upon calling the VW service center, the person at the other end didn't seem surprised at all. He asked us to go back to the car and he would 'tell us step by step' how to resolve the issue. My friend, however, didn't want to take any chances and called for the car to be towed.

I'm still not sure what caused the brakes to lock up in a 5-month old car. Has anyone else faced such an issue? Hopefully, this is not something endemic to the Polo 1.6 population. Any pointers are welcome.

UPDATE: Disc Brake Lock Up on Polo 1.6

The car is at the workshop. When the wheel was opened, a tiny stone was found lodged between the brake pad and the disc. The stone was removed by prying it with a screw driver. However, the wheels are still locked up and making that blood-curdling noise when the car is moved. VW guys are working on it, as I type.

However, I'm baffled at the idea of a stone getting lodged between the brake pads and the disc. I mean, the space between the two is in the order of a few millimeters. How could a stone get stuck there! The chances of the tyre picking up a stone and it being on a trajectory towards the brake pads and perfectly positioning itself in that narrow space is one in a million! I suspect a hands-wash-off story being planned by the VW guys. Will keep updating.

P.S: All updates to this issue stated above are by word-of-mouth from my friend. I haven't personally seen the car in the workshop.

This problem has been reported on this forum before. Very strange that this happens to only Polo's.

I own a Polo Tdi Trendline. I am very much satisfied with the performance of the car except for one issue. The car doesn't have a height adjustable driver seat. I am 6"2 feet tall and the roof of the car is only a inch or two above my head which is causing me back problems. Also the rear view mirror is placed quite low in polo which creates a blindspot in the windshield. I tried reclining the seat but it is uncomfortable position to drive the car.

I asked the authorized polo workshop and they said that the cost of new height adjustable seat that comes in Polo Highline will be around 30 k. Also, inquired Performance Zone, Delhi showroom for Sparco and Recaro custom seats. They are quoting 15000 for a pair. But the sales person @ Performance Zone said that even these Sparco and Recaro seats are not height adjustable but can be placed lower as compared to my current car seats.

I also tried inquiring any available car seats of a total damage car but in vain till now.

Does anyone know whether the seats of the OLD Fabia can be put in Polo ?

Please advice me.

Should I go for the original height adjustable seats from Volkswagen or buy Sparco or Recaro custom seats.
