You got a good deal for the decade old workhorse. Two thumbs up for this detailed thread and journal for the indica.

I'm sure the detailed thread helped you get a good deal too.

No doubt about that. I couldn't have expected a better price that what I have got for this 10 year old workhorse. I checked the price on carwale.com and for an Indica car of my vintage and running and excellent condition it showed a price of 1.02 lacs. By getting 13K extra over that price, I have recovered the 12.5K that I had spent on the 5 alloy wheels. What else could I have asked for. Overall very happy with the deal.

When the engine becomes very hot (temperature indicator needle at halfway mark), the resistance of the winding increases, which results in the starter motor drawing a current from the battery that is beyond its capacity. Hence the battery is not able to provide enough current to the starter motor to take up the load, resulting the car does not start when very hot.

This problem was resolved by TML from the 2005 batches & beyond by replacing the starter motor winding with that of a higher rating 1.1 kW. Even for me this problem used to aggravate especially during summers. Then in 2011 I overhauled my starter motor from Lucas TVS & replaced the winding with a higher rating, since then the problem has not resurfaced & car starts easily even when the engine is very hot.

Details of part & labor charged are listed below for reference:

Thanks for the valuable information looking forward to change my starter with a higher rating. Any recommendations? For the new starter?

Visit your nearest Lucas TVS workshop. They are well aware of this issue. They will take proper care and replace the old one with a higher rating.

Re: Tata Indica DLX - 150,000 kms & beyond

From yesterday having a peculiar problem, As soon as i crank the radiator fan starts to kick in and never stops until i switch off the engine, car was all fine till 2 days back, the radiator fan used to only kick in when i switch on AC or during running condition, but after few mins it used to switch off and then on, i mean it used to work normally with or without AC, now it stays ON all the time, what could be the problem?

I have checked temperature its normal and sometimes the needle doesnt even come to middle and stays below since fan is running all the time, even AC cooling is working fine, My Indica V2 Turbo is due for oil change, pls tell me what could have gone wrong so that i can inform the service center to fix only that.

Hello Ruben,

I have not faced this issue, hence cannot give you a solution with guarantee. However I can only guess. The radiator fan has to start when the coolant temperature in the radiator exceeds beyond certain limit. In your case since the fan kicks in as soon as you start your car means that either the coolant temperature sensor has become faulty or the radiator relay which gets input from this temperature sensor has gone kaput. In either case this does not seem to be a big issue and the Service Centre or a good Indica mechanic/ electrician should be able to fix it.

The Auto electrician found the problem, it was the Radiator switch which was kaput, he replaced and its back to normal, also did oil and filter change and fixed the light issues i had (mentioned in same thread earlier post), there was a wiring getting short, he taped and everything back to normal.

Thanks

Glad to know John that the root cause of your issue has been identified and fixed. How much did the electrician charge you for this work?

Re: Tata Indica DLX - 150,000 kms & beyond

Hello friends, happy to inform you that my TUV3OO ownership report has gone live couple of hours back. Here is the link to that ----> http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/test-d...rspective.html (Orange Tank to conquer the road - Mahindra TUV3OO owner's perspective)

Do visit there and give your feedback. I have made an honest attempt to pen down my review. However the short duration of 2 weeks and just 650 kms under the belt won't cover all the pros and cons of the car. Moreover the absence of registration number is holding me from taking my tank on long highway drives. However next month, once I get the number plates installed in my car, I will unleash my tank and then there will be no looking back . Will keep adding my experiences to my review.
